Dating back to the late 1890s, long before it became known as the Home of Champions Rodeo, Red Lodge’s home-grown tradition had humble beginnings when local cowboys would meet on Sunday afternoons to ride broncos. 1929 marked the first official rodeo for Red Lodge when these cowboys rallied together to build an arena and conduct bronc rides. Sitting on the same plot of land since 1932, Red Lodge’s rodeo has entertained rodeo fans from across the state and beyond. Giving homage to local rodeo hero, Bill Linderman who went on to win his third World All-Around Champion Title in 1954, the name, “Home of Champions” was born.
In addition to bulls, barrels, and a wild horse race, the Home of Champions rodeo also invites the youngest cowgirls and cowboys to participate in mutton-bustin’.
The fun isn’t exclusive to the rodeo arena, however. Red Lodge is also celebrating rodeo week with three exciting themed parades occurring on each day of rodeo activities.
Come celebrate Independence Day with Cowboy Lifestyle Network and Red Lodge, Montana as we celebrate one of America’s oldest sports, rodeo!
