Welcome to our Legends of the Old West Podcast “Bonus Series” on Rodeo Houston! In these episodes, we’ll take you behind the scenes of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the largest entertainment event of its kind in the world.

It’s a 3-week extravaganza held every spring in Houston, Texas. From February 25 to March 17, thousands of people flock to the grounds around NRG Stadium, the home of the Houston Texans, to take in the livestock shows, rodeo events, and concerts featuring some of the biggest performers in the world. In these three episodes, you’ll learn about the history of the event and its unique mission; you’ll hear from some of the top rodeo athletes, and you’ll hear exclusive interviews with musicians.

Episode one starts and ends with the tale of George Strait’s legendary first performance at Rodeo Houston in 1983 – a story you don’t want to miss by Leroy Shafer, the former Chief Operating Officer of the Rodeo Houston.

In between this incredible story, you’ll hear the about the history, the evolution and the mission of Rodeo Houston, as well as some some hints as to what might be coming in the future from current President and CEO Joel Cowley, and the incredible volunteer effort that makes this massive event possible from Chairman of the Board, Jim Winne.

His support for Horses Help, Harris Brothers Charity Foundation, and a 25-year CLN Christmas Toy Drive proves it, building community trust through action.
