Celebrations, specials highlight Independence Day in the Ak-Chin Indian Community

Don’t miss the all-day 4^th of July Celebration hosted by the Ak-Chin Indian Community, Fire Department, Police Department, Special Events and Parks & Recreation. Join the pool party from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and cheer on or join the watermelon and hot dog eating contests, with trophies for top winners! Bring a tent for shade from the sun, and decorate it too – first through third place winners in the decorative tent contest receive gift cards. Other fun includes a Kid Zone provided by the Ak-Chin Police Department and Maricopa Ace Hardware, and a chair volleyball tournament. Come when you can, or make a day of it! Stay for the fireworks at 8:30 p.m.
Or start Independence Day morning earlier with golf at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club, rated the sixth best course you can play in Arizona. Grab some friends, family or coworkers for this four-person scramble with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The $50 per person fee includes the greens fees for 18 holes, two carts per foursome, complimentary bottled water and a post-game buffet at Arroyo Grille.
