Indian National Finals Rodeo INFR 2016

Written by

Get ready. The Indian National Finals Rodeo will be in Las Vegas come November. It will be the event’s 41st anniversary. But, from we’ve seen in the past, the show will feel like a kid’s party, a combination of heritage, culture and vibrant adventure for the entire family. For four days at the South Point Arena, the INFR is going to be a world of music, dancing, good eating, reminders of how important this legacy is to our country and, of course, exciting rodeo action.

It began in 1976 when a small group of people united several regional Indian rodeo associations throughout Canada and the U.S. This became the Indian National Finals Rodeo, a place where Indian cowboys and cowgirls could compete and inspire. Sanctioning almost 700 nationwide events and offering prize money totaling over a million dollars, the INFR is a highly respected Indian rodeo organization, working with youth associations to help any and every young cowboy and cowgirl who wants to be an athlete in the professional rodeo and one day come out to South Point and shine.

The INFR has 11 regions with members as old as 80 and young as eight. Theirs remain the only events where children, parents and grandparents are on the card for shots at championships in their individual categories. The Indian National Finals Rodeo is the last leg in a race to the championship, winning prize money, awards and walking away with the accolades.
Of the over 350 contestants, all from tribes across the U.S. and Canada, each has proven they deserve to be at the top of the heap by fighting their way through the INFR ranks. Now they’ll come out to South Point and compete in eight major events. Whatever the outcome, they’re champions and have earned their place in the spotlight.

The Indian National Finals Rodeo will be at South Point come November 8-12. As everyone that knows rodeo knows, the Cowboy Lifestyle Network, Ak-Chin Indian Community and Earnhardt Auto Centers Road Team will also be in Las Vegas. They’ll be covering every event and making sure the sad folk who won’t be there get the scoop.
