Women of the Western Industry: Shea Fisher-Durfey

Written by

Wearing many hats is never easy, but Australian native Shea Fisher-Durfey tackles this challenge daily and is the picture of poise while doing it. Shea, wife of Tyson Durfey, 12x NFR qualifier and 2016 PRCA World Champion Tie-Down Roper, is the mother of two beautiful girls, a professional singer, jewelry designer, barrel racer, and the owner of both Shea Michelle Buckles and Shea Baby Boots, the latter being a successful company that sells high-quality boots geared towards the littlest cowboys and cowgirls in the family.

In the fifth installment of Cowboy Lifestyle Network‘s Women of the Western Industry series, we will learn more about Shea, her business ventures, family, fashion tips, and advice on how to start a company.

Q: You’re a singer, barrel racer, rodeo wife, mom, and owner of Shea Baby Boots…and that doesn’t even include all of the hats you wear! How do you manage your schedule?

A: I have always been the type of person who likes to stay busy. I think this is why I am able to juggle so many different hats. I have learned over the last few years though that it’s ok to ask for help. My parents are a huge help for us with the kiddos and my horses. They allow me to be able to continue to run Shea Michelle Buckles and the Shea Baby Boots line. I try to put God & family first before work. My goal is to be able to show my girls that as women and moms we can still be successful in our own right.

Q: Speaking of Shea Baby Boots, can you tell me more about what inspired you to start this company?

A: Tyson & I are proud parents of two little girls, Praise Royal and Risyn Breeze. Praise was born September 1st, 2016, and Risyn Breeze on March 18, 2018. Over the past 3 years I have worked with other mummies to create the perfect boot for those little babies. I wanted to create a baby boot that is not only affordable and comfortable but also stylish and unique. We all love to show off our cute little babies and there is no better way than with a pair of Shea Baby Boots. Each pair is handcrafted with all-natural leather! Q: You are known as a Western fashion influencer. What are a few of your style tips for aspiring fashionistas in this industry?

A: Be yourself! Create your own style and don’t just follow what others do. It’s ok to be different and unique. Show your personality through your style. I love to try and make my girls’ outfits match my outfits anytime we go out. I have so much fun putting together outfits for us all. It’s a lot of work but a lot of fun.

Q: What accomplishment are you the proudest of to date?

A: Being a mom of two beautiful little girls. My family outweighs any platinum music album or company I have built.

Q: What is the best advice you can give to other women in the industry who are interested in starting their own retail business?

A: You need to find something unique. Something that not every store sells. It’s about standing out from the crowd. Start small and work your way up!
