Welcome to another YETI Exclusive Interview! This month, we were thrilled to able to chat with breakaway roper, Jordan Fabrizio, about how she got started in roping, what her career has been like up to this point, where she hopes to be in the future, and of course, what it’s like to work with a brand like YETI. Enjoy!
CLN: Can you tell our audience a little about yourself? (Background, your history with rodeo, etc.)
Jordan: I was born and raised in Pueblo, CO. My family was involved in rodeo for several generations and it was something that I was born into. I started my first junior rodeo at the age of 5 and I have been a rodeo cowgirl ever since. I rodeoed throughout junior high, high school, college, amateur, and now the professional rodeo level. I dabbled in sports coming up through grade school. I especially have a love for swimming, and I was given the opportunity to swim on a traveling team through middle school and high school. However, I made the choice to let that all go my sophomore year, and solely focus on rodeo. It is truly a lifestyle that I love because of the places we get to travel, the people we meet – who usually become family, and the memories that are made. It’s truly an adventure, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything!
CLN: How did you initially become involved in breakaway/team roping?
Jordan: My parents both roped calves and team roped, but growing up my family team roped a lot, so i gradually started team roping as my main hobby and then roped breakaway on the side. I went to West Texas A&M University for college, and i graduated with my MBA in Business administration. I rodeoed in college for 5 years, and was close to making the College finals but never accomplished that goal. That is when i really started focusing in on breakaway only and trying to break everything down and start from scratch. That led me to start over, go back through some hoops and obstacles, from jackpots, to amateur rodeos, then to professional. I am thankful that I did not make the college finals, because honestly without that obstacle i would not be where i am today. That challenge lit a fire inside of me.
CLN: How do you get yourself “in the zone” when at a rodeo or roping?
Jordan: I have worked a lot on my skill set, and not just physically, but mentally as well. I try to be as prepared as I can physically and mentally get, then I just try to let my subconscious react to the training. I love to study other professional athletes, read their stories, and follow them to see what they are doing. The mental part of the game to me is the biggest part, and the most fun when I execute that part and do my job.
CLN: You won the first official breakaway roping at Cheyenne Frontier Days in 2019, can you describe what that experience was like for you?
Jordan: Not really… still to this day I tear up when watching the video. It was an amazing opportunity to even be there, get to compete, and then have success as well. The whole week is a big God story for me personally and professionally. It was truly a monumental moment in my career, one I will never forget, and it changed my life. I was so overwhelmed, and thankful for everyone who was beside me and helped me to get down the road, my boyfriend, and just friends and family. It was a key turning point for the breakaway ropers and one of the biggest stages that we were able to compete on. It was truly amazing, and words really can’t explain it for me.
CLN: What do your rodeo goals look like heading into the final half of 2021 and into 2022?
Jordan: My goals are big, and expectations high. I want to put in the time, do the work, prepare, and do my job everyday, control what i can control, and make a difference in someones life.
CLN: What is the best advice you can give aspiring women ropers?
Jordan: Just be you. Dont compare yourself, dont try to be someone else, God made you for a reason with a purpose and a plan. Enjoy the process, and take time to live in the moments good and bad, because those moments are what make you… perfect and you!
CLN: Do you have a personal preference between breakaway roping and team roping?
Jordan: Breakaway roping is obviously my favorite, so I am partial to that. I enjoyed team roping as well. Breakway is all on you and your horse, its fun, fast, and furious… I love it!
CLN: What has it meant to be a part of the YETI Ambassador team?
Jordan: I am truly honored to be a part of the team. I have not experienced being a part of a team where the owners actually get on a call, talk to you about their products, and most of all ask for feedback. YETI is like a huge family, almost a melting pot of professionals dedicated to their customers, ambassadors, and the pursuit of successful products. It is fun to see how different we are all, but all come together and use great products… truly an inspiring group to be a part of!
CLN: Do you have any closing thoughts on YETI or your experience that you’d like to share with our audience
Jordan: YETI is dedicated to making their products to exceed your expectations. There are no limits!
