Let’s just tell it like it is, plain and simple – J.B. Mauney is ON FIRE. In fact, he’s doing better than he did when he won the PBR World Championship in 2013. We’re seeing the confident, calm, collected and nothing-can-buck-me-off attitude that won him his first world championship two years ago.
After a rocky start to the season, Mauney gained some serious momentum. He won six events (including tonight’s Round 1 win), rode 59.74% of all the bulls he got on, made eight 90pt rides (including tonight’s 91.00 effort against Wicked Stick from Diamond S Bucking Bulls), finished in the Top 5, 15 times and in the Top 10, 19 times. All of this was accomplished by attending 31 events with 77 outs and 46 rides.
Compare that to his 2013 season. He had 90 outs at 26 events with 47 total rides for a riding percentage of 52.22% to win him the championship. He had eight 90+ point rides, finished in the Top 5, 11 times and in the Top 10, 14 times.
The numbers don’t lie. Mauney has already accomplished more this season than the year he won the title…and it’s only been round one! He still has four more rounds to widen the 1,315-point lead he has over Joao Ricardo Vieira.
We’re looking forward to a huge finish from the 28-year-old bull rider. For 10 years he’s been riding bulls professionally and shows no sign of stopping.
In fact, he could easily become the first man to ever win the world title four different times. Either way, we’re counting on some more 90+ point rides and another world champion buckle.
