Singer/songwriter Joshua Dylan Balis just released the title track “We’re On Fire” from his forthcoming debut album We’re On Fire (State Fair Records), set for release on May 13th. The title track doubles down on the album’s central metaphor, about how quickly time can pass by, and how time can alter perspective.
Of the new single, Josh shared
“‘We’re On Fire’ is a double entendre, it refers to the lyrics in the song, which deal with the implications of finding purpose in an impermanent world, and with the transformative nature of the times we’re collectively living in. Indeed, we are on fire and the burning question in the background of our lives is – what will remain once the ashes have blown away?”
“We’re On Fire” is the second single release from his debut album We’re On Fire, following his previously-released “Stories,” which quickly amassed over 25,000 views and was written as a love letter to friends and family, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZA3hrL6BgU. “Stories” features his father Danny Balis, the co-founder and bassist of the band Bastards Of Soul on bass guitar. Central Track shared the song, saying it “…recalls Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, with a beautiful honesty in his smoke-filled vocals, confident acoustic guitar playing and tasteful harmonica playing.”
Most recently, Josh shared a message to fans via Instagram, announcing his We’re On Fire album pre-order, now available digitally here: https://orcd.co/wereonfirealbum. Signed physical CD copies of the album are also available for pre-order at his website, https://www.joshuabalis.com/shop.
Josh is currently signed to Dallas, Texas record label State Fair Records. He grew up in a family of accomplished musicians including his grandmother Evelyn, who was a backup vocalist for Patsy Cline during her Hayride circuit, and his father Danny Balis, the co-owner of the Twilite Lounge and bassist of the band Bastards of Soul.
