for the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo
FORT WORTH, Texas (Jan. 28, 2015) – Monty Lewis would like nothing more than to leave the Will Rogers Coliseum on Feb. 7th with one of the legendary buckles that are given to event champions at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.
Lewis, from Hereford, Texas, put himself in great position to do just that on Tuesday night. While he didn’t have the fastest time of the night, his 9.3-second run put him in the overall lead with a total of 19.1 on two runs.
The top three positions in the second round also changed with some really fast roping. Lewis is included in that at third place. First is now Joe Keating from Sour Lake, Texas, with an 8.7. Ryle Smith from Oakdale, Calif., moved into second with a 9.1.
Bull riding saw one of the best performances here so far. Four of the twelve bull riders were successful and they all moved into the top seven in the first round. They are also in good shape to qualify for the finals here if they are successful again on Thursday night.
Jordan Hansen from Okotoks, Alberta had the high-marked ride of the night at 81 points. That came aboard United Pro Rodeo’s bull named Little Pain for the two-time Canadian Finals Rodeo qualifier. Hansen is in now in second place in the first round.
John Jacobs from Little Eagle, S.D., and Steve Woolsey from Payson, Utah, each had 80-point rides. They are tied for third in the round. Neither of them are currently ranked in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s world standings but a win here would change that. Woolsey is looking for his eighth Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualification and Jacobs is after his first.
Another Canadian, Jared Parsonage, from Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, was the other bull rider to make it to the whistle. Parsonage had a 75 and is tied for seventh place.
In the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association barrel race, Michele McLeod from Whitesboro, Texas, had the fast run of the night at 16.75 aboard the great horse “Skye.” She is tied for third in the first round.
Competition at the World’s Original Indoor Rodeo® continues on Thursday night with a performance at 7:30.
