For the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Feb. 21, 2015) — There are several reasons that the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo is one of bull rider Reid Barker’s favorites.
For one, it is just 50 miles from his home in Comfort, Texas. He grew up coming here, watching relatives compete and dreamed about riding here. This is the city of his birth and home of the richest regular season rodeo that offers over $1.65 million in cash and prizes.
Barker competed in bracket four here and came one step closer to accomplishing his goal of winning a championship. He was the only bull rider to be successful on two bulls. He tied for first place in the first round of competition with Californian, Dylan Vick on Friday night.
Then he came off his second bull early at the Saturday matinee performance. Saturday evening, he was the only rider to last the full-eight seconds. Barker was successful on Mo Betta Rodeo’s Hang Over, scoring 86 points and adding $2,281 to his official earnings. He tops the leaderboard with $4,277.
The big money winner in this bracket was world champion tie-down roper Tuf Cooper from Decatur, Texas. He won the first and second rounds and was fourth in the third to earn $5,132.
In the bareback riding, Bobby Mote continued his winning ways earning first place checks in the second and third rounds on Saturday. He rode Summit Pro Rodeo’s Minute Man for 85 points Saturday afternoon, came back for the evening performance and bettered his score with an 87-point ride on J Bar J Rodeo’s Dirty Rags.
Mote is coming off of a win at the National Western Stock Show Rodeo in Denver last month. He is currently sixth in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world standings and could improve that position with a win here. The 14 time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier has four world titles to his credit and is looking for number five.
The fifth and final bracket starts here on Sunday with rounds one and two at 1 and 7:30 p.m. respectively. It will be completed Monday night. The first of two semifinals begins Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.
