Nashville’s hottest new country duo is Derek and Katelyn Dryes. The married couple wowed the masses on the latest season of The Voice. The two were in the music scene individually before they were an item and quickly decided that they should put together a band to start performing around the east coast. Now, 15 years later, they are a household name.
On November 25th, the duo released their latest single Christmas is Callin’, a fun cozy country holiday classic that is bound to be on your playlist for years to come. The original penned by Derek and Katelyn in addition to Kelli Johnson, has already been on major Spotify lists and gained over 250,000 streams in less than a month. The feel-good toe-tapper is full of personal family traditions and inside jokes. In an interview with Milestone Publicity, Derek shares, “Christmas is one of our favorite times of the year. We wrote this song about those family get togethers; exchanging gifts, laughing about memories of the past, when Katelyn’s sister got Amy Grant’s Christmas album on Christmas Day in 1992 and it played all morning. It’s those moments that inspired us to write this song.”
With sultry vocals and harmonies that will give you goosebumps, the Dryes have big plans for 2023, including currently working on new music and putting together a full album. Katelyn grew up with her grandmother playing Johnny Cash and all the legendary women of country like Patsy, Tammy, Loretta, and Dolly; while Derek loves how you can talk about anything from faith to partying and everything in between. Katelyn says, “there’s a place for everyone in country music. You can tell stories that make people laugh and cry. Artists are able to share their experiences and it resonates with listeners in a very real way. You just saying ‘country music’ gives me a warm feeling and I just can’t imagine doing anything else.”
