National Western Stock Show and Rodeo 2016

Written by

If you’re looking for a real rodeo, every cowboy and cowgirl will be happy to hear the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo (NWSS) is coming to Denver, Colorado.
Taking place between January 9–24, it’s a roundup of significant events, including the 2nd Annual BBQ Throw Down Competition and the opportunity to enjoy festivities at the 42nd Annual Cowboy Downhill in nearby Steamboat, Colorado.
2016 is going to be another great year and event for the NWSS, promising family fun, good food, music and the best in team roping, breakaway roping, barrel racing, sheep riding, bull riding, saddle bronc riding and bareback riding.

Sponsored by Chevrolet, the BBQ Throw Down takes place opening day with 40 teams competing for Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion titles. But the real winners are anyone walking by. There’ll be grill giveaways, a kid zone and lots of ribs, pork, brisket, and chicken. The opening weekend of the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo has the Colorado Fiddle Championships taking place at the Beef Palace Arena.
There’s a parade with a cascade of Texas Longhorns and Fan Appreciation Day. You can also check out the Catch-a-Calf contest. And that’s only the beginning: join The Mexican Rodeo Extravaganza, PBR Bull Riding, the Wild West Show, Grand Prix and An Evening of Dancing Horses, to name a few. And remember you have the chance to take in the festivities at Steamboat’s Cowboy Downhill on January 18th with the best professional cowboys competing in ski rodeo events.

The NWSS is one of the oldest rodeo shows in the country. It started in January 1906 with an audience of 15,000. It was the first event to have a rodeo in conjunction with a livestock show. At the 2006 National Western Stock Show and Rodeo, the event hit two milestones: 100 years of rustic entertainment and a record $301,000 auctioning of a Hereford bull. Even with additions like the BBQ Throw Down and Cowboy Downhill, every cowboy and cowgirl knows the team roping, breakaway roping, barrel racing, sheep riding, bull riding, saddle bronc riding and bareback riding remain the show at the NWSS.
Breathtaking moments at Denver’s legendary rodeo will be covered by Cowboy Lifestyle Network, Ak-Chin Indian Community, and Earnhardt Auto Centers Road Team. Whether you’re a cowboy, cowgirl, cowkid, or just a fan of rodeoget your tickets for NWSS. Come out to Denver and see why bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, breakaway roping, barrel racing, sheep riding, team roping, sheep riding and bull riding still rule!
