There is no better place in the United States to find a good old-fashioned rodeo than Holbrook, Arizona, as any good cowboy or cowgirl knows. That’s certainly the case this year, as residents celebrate the 84th anniversary of the Navajo County Fair that’s taking place from September 16-20. With media coverage from the Cowboy Lifestyle Network, Ak-Chin Indian Community, and the Earnhardt Auto Road Team, this year’s festivities are sure to be bigger and better than ever.

Event History

The Navajo County Fair was first held in Taylor, AZ in 1926, but five years later was moved to Holbrook since that was the county seat and provided a more central location for attendees. And for the past 84 years, not a year has passed without there being a fair. Known by some as the Holbrook County Fair & Rodeo, it has always emphasized many of the good things about Arizona, including cultural, educational, and scientific interests pertaining specifically to residents of Navajo County. Voted the #1 Rodeo in Arizona, it regularly attracts as many as 25,000 fans.

Events and Entertainment

The Navajo County Fair this year promises to be more exciting than ever, with the theme of “Ridin’, ‘Rockin’, and ‘Livestockin’. As a PRCA sanctioned event, this is one pro rodeo that always lives up to the hype. And to make sure everyone is fully entertained this year, a number of exciting performers are scheduled to appear such as:

  • Johnny “Backflip” Dudley
  • “Percheron Thunder”
  • PRCA Announcer Jody Carper

In addition, the event will feature a large, live video scoreboard that will show the crowd instant replays of the most exciting moments. And to add even more excitement to the mix, top PRCA Bucking Stock from the Honeycutt Rodeo Company will also be on hand to wow the crowd.

While the rodeo is the main attraction at the Navajo County Fair, there’s plenty of other activities for a Holbrook cowboy or cowgirl to enjoy. A cowgirl might enjoy the Jr. Miss Pageant or the Little Buckaroo Rodeo, while a cowboy might like the Tire Change Challenge or the Demolition Derby. Whatever the attraction, the Holbrook County Fair & Rodeo is sure to have something for everyone who loves pro rodeo. So whether it’s watching “Backflip” Dudley, the 4-H Horse Show, or any of the other activities, there’s little doubt the Holbrook County Fair & Rodeo is one PRCA event that will provide fans of pro rodeo with plenty of entertainment.
