Champion crowned at National Western Stock Show bull riding

Bull Riding

DENVER, Colo. (Jan. 15, 2025) — In a competition where bull riders are often bested by their bovine adversaries, the National Western Stock Show Denver Chute-Out has seen a lot of bull riders hit the dirt.

As one of the premier events on the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour, the competition attracts the best bull riders and features top-notch bucking bulls as well.  In the 2025 edition, two bull riders were successful on three out of three bulls.

The event winner was Alan de Souza from Taubate, Sao Paul, Brazil who had a total of 239.5 points. He is currently ranked 12th in the PBR world standings and this win certainly helped that as well. He had a 72.5 point ride on Monday night to advance to Wednesday night’s competition. His first bull on Wednesday night was Renegade owned by Hale/Vella/Ogden/Hart. That match up was worth 83 points and a sixth place finish. In the final round, he scored 84 points on Dialed In owned by Double S Bull Co./Cervi. That’s where the big money came into play.

The 31-year-old de Souza earned $2,520 for that ride and a whopping $17,460 for the highest total score on three rides. His total take out of the Denver Coliseum was $19,980.

Miguel de Jesus, also from Brazil finished behind de Souza with 228 points on three rides. He earned $13,933 and was the only other rider out of the 90 entered here to be successful on three bulls. Finishing in third was Sage Kimzey from Strong City, Oklahoma. Kimzey is a seven-time world champion bull rider in the PRCA who is making it known that he wants a world title in the PBR as well. He had 175 points on two and earned $11,288.

Rounding out the top four was Andrew Alvidrez from Seminole, Texas who had 174.5 points. Alvidrez earned $9,675.

Thursday at the National Western Stock Show will see the  first Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and Women’s Professional Rodeo Association sanctioned competition. The rodeo starts at 7 p.m.

About the Author:

Biography:

The moment a bull's gate swings open—that's when Patrick "OD" O'Donnell feels most alive. From his early days riding bareback through Arizona pastures to revolutionizing the bull riding industry as President of Bull Riders Only, OD has lived the Western lifestyle he now champions as Founder of Cowboy Lifestyle Network. Growing up in Casa Grande's sunbaked agricultural heartland, he didn't just learn about horses and ranching, he lived it daily, developing the instincts and grit that would later attract 4 million followers to CLN's authentic voice.

After his baseball days at the University of Arizona, OD saw something others missed: bull riding wasn't just a sport, but was compelling entertainment waiting for the right vision. Between 1990-1997, his leadership transformed local rodeo competitions into sold-out arena events that changed Western sports forever. Today, that same pioneering spirit drives CLN's coverage of everything from championship rodeos to the quiet heroism of ranch life. When he's not building the digital home for cowboy culture, you'll find OD supporting Harris Brothers Charity Foundation, leading CLN’s 25-year Christmas Toy Drive for Arizona kids, or sharing his love of horsemanship with special needs riders through Arizona's own Horses Help. Living proof that authentic Western values still have the power to transform lives.
