Ogden, Utah – The Ogden Pioneer Days is in full swing! Be sure to catch this year’s event running now through July 24th. Come celebrate 90 years and counting! This is an annual celebration to commemorate the settlement of Ogden, Utah. Of course don’t forget about the headline event, the Ogden Pioneer Days rodeo which is consistently ranked as one of the top outdoor rodeos in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). This grand event is held at the historic Ogden Pioneer Stadium, located at 668 17th St, Ogden, UT 84404. The rodeo draws thousands of fans back to where it all started in 1934 and where the feeling of the American West still lives on.
Ogden Pioneer Days was established in 1934 as a celebration of Ogden’s early days. It was established to help secure the city’s uncertain future. The Great Depression had hit Ogden as hard as any other place in America. In the midst of the chaos, Mayor Harman Peery devised a plan to capitalize on the rodeo interests of wealthy cattle ranchers, attract tourists, and lift the burdened community’s spirit.
Peery’s goals for the Western-themed festival were set high, to say the least. Among the guests invited over the years included Franklin D. Roosevelt and some of Hollywood’s elite, such as the comedy duo Abbott and Costello but only the latter attended. Peery pictured the festival as a nationally recognized phenomenon. In fact, Ogden Pioneer Days has achieved all that Peery had set out to accomplish, and even more.
The Ogden Pioneer Days has been a nationally recognized, Top 5 PRCA rodeo and was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2017. As one of the top rodeos in Utah, Ogden Pioneer Days draws nearly 50,000 fans annually to its highly anticipated main event. All ages are welcome! Don’t forget to enjoy all of the festivities available as part of the full Ogden Pioneer Days celebration, including parades, fireworks, concerts, art strolls, and much more.
