Omak Stampede 2018

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]While Washington State may not be known as a hotbed for rodeos by many people, smart cowboys and cowgirls in the Pacific Northwest know better. Thus, from August 9-12, rodeo fans from all over the state will converge on the 85th Annual PRCA Omak Stampede.
This year’s edition, which is expected to be bigger and better than ever before, will feature a variety of great events, special nights honoring various groups and causes, live music, and of course the World Famous Suicide Race. And to make sure the Omak Stampede receives the coverage that’s deserving of a world-class rodeo, it will be covered start to finish by the Cowboy Lifestyle Network, Ak-Chin Indian Community, and Earnhardt Auto Centers Road Team, all of which will give fans a great look at what makes this rodeo so special.
Rodeo Events
To make sure fans are always on the edge of their seats, the PRCA Omak Stampede will have plenty of great events, which will include:

  • Bull riding
  • Steer wrestling
  • Team roping
  • Barrel racing
  • Tie-down roping

With these and many more events on the schedule, there’s no doubt cowboys and cowgirls of all ages will be treated to plenty of thrills and spills.
World Famous Suicide Race
And speaking of thrills and spills, it doesn’t get any better than the annual World Famous Suicide Race. Known throughout the rodeo world as perhaps the most exciting event of its kind, it’s been virtually unchanged since its introduction in 1935. Except for a few modern safety precautions, the race involves competitors starting just short of a sandy bluff near the Okanogan River. From there, they ride their horses 225 feet down the bluff, swim across the river, then make a 500-yard mad dash to the finish line, which is located near the center of the rodeo arena.
Special Events
And to make the PRCA Omak Stampede even more exciting, there are lots of other special events fans can enjoy. Some of the most popular include:

  • Tough Enough to Wear Pink Night
  • Wrangler Kids Night
  • Davis Shows Carnival
  • Rodeo Dance and Concert
  • Western and Native Art Show
  • Indian Encampment and Pow Wow

With this and so much more to offer, there’s no doubt the Stampede Arena will be packed each and every day.

Peter Varlet

Peter Varlet’s the cowboy critic you love to hate, until he’s right. Born during a thunderstorm in 1972 in Bismarck, North Dakota, he grew up watching his WWII vet dad battle to save their farm from corporate claws. Now, Peter’s the unapologetic voice of Western culture, with a historian’s grip on America’s past, acknowledging both its heroes and hypocrites. His truth to power articles are a no-holds-barred zone for rodeo reviews, cowboy movie takedowns, and ranching tricks that work. He’ll tell you why your country singer’s a fraud and how to fix a fence with only baling wire and spite. Peter despises corporate factory farms taking over and cherishes the DIY grit of real Americans. Politically correct? Nope. Trustworthy? Damn straight. He’s saving the West, one brutal truth at a time.
