An elite league featuring eight teams consisting of the world’s best bull riders, the first Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Team Series will round out the season November 4-6, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the T-Mobile Arena.
Team competition in the PBR began in 2017 with the PBR Global Cup and continued in the following years with events such as the 2021 Monster Energy Team Challenge and multiple Air Force Reserve Cowboys for a Cause event. The excitement surrounding the team format in what has traditionally been considered an individual sport led PBR to introduce the PBR Team Series in 2022 with the first of 11 events in Cheyenne, Wyoming July 25-26. While each of the eight teams hosted an event in their home city, two other non team affiliated events were scheduled for the series: one in Anaheim, California, and the championship in Las Vegas.
Across the 10 regular season events, each team plays 28 games. Each game is a 5-on-5 competition between two teams, and the team with the highest aggregate score from the matchup wins that particular game; rides are judged with the same basic rules for scoring qualified 8-second bull rides.
On May 23 immediately following the PBR World Finals, each team drafted 5 riders. Throughout the season, teams have seven riders – five starters and two alternates, who may be subbed in and out of games over the course of a weekend event. Each team also has a practice squad of five additional riders. This gives each team flexibility for optimal performance and the most exciting action in the arena every night. At each game, bulls are drawn to teams, and coaches are able to assign their riders as they see fit.
As of October 8, teams were coached by and consisted of the following.
All eight teams qualify for the Team Series Championship, and the top two teams earn first round byes in the playoff style elimination tournament. The first two rounds will also feature a “Last Chance” game for teams who lost their first game earlier in the night; this game will be a three team matchup with the winner advancing to the following night. With a $1,225,000 prize purse for the championship, the first place team will win $750,000 to be split amongst the riders.
In addition to the Team Series Championship, there will be many supporting events going on in Las Vegas from November 1-6. The PBR Challenger Series Championship will take place November 3 at 7:00 p.m. at the South Point, and there will be multiple American Bucking Bull, Inc. (ABBI) events throughout the week.
Following the first two nights of the PBR Team Series Championship, there will be concerts (one by Warrant and one by Chancey Williams), and there will be an after-party following each championship performance. The Friday and Saturday championship performances will begin at 7:45 p.m., and the final championship performance on Sunday will begin at 12:45 p.m. For a complete list of events, visit https://pbr.com/team-championship/schedule/.
All tickets, whether single-day, three-day, or premium seating, can be purchased through the PBR website. Premium seating options include Dirt Suites and Chute Seats, both of which come with food, drinks, and more.
For those making the trip to Las Vegas, there are also travel packages that include tickets and hotel accommodations at a participating hotel of your choice. These packages start at $495 and can also be purchased through the PBR website. If you are not able to make it out for the championship, the event will be televised on CBS Sports Network each evening.
We at Cowboy Lifestyle Network are very excited to cheer on our favorite teams, and we look forward to seeing everyone in Las Vegas for the very first Team Series Championship at the T-Mobile Arena!
