[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]If you are a California cowboy or cowgirl who loves celebrating everything that made the Old West a great period in American history, then there’s no doubt you’ve circled the dates of August 25-26 on your calendar. On that August weekend, that’s when the PRCA Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo comes to town. An annual tradition for the past 18 years, the rodeo is a family-friendly event that always contains plenty of excitement for fans of all ages. And with more than $180,000 in prize money up for grabs, this year’s rodeo promises to be even more competitive than ever, since many of the competitors here will move on to Las Vegas later this year to compete in the National Finals Rodeo. Due to the importance of this rodeo, there will be extensive media coverage from the Cowboy Lifestyle Network, Ak-Chin Indian Community, and Earnhardt Auto Centers Road Team, all of which will provide fans with videos, interviews, and much more.
Rodeo Events
Dedicated to preserving the cowboy heritage, the PRCA Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo always has plenty of events to remind fans of just how it was back in the days of the Wild West. Some of the most popular events fans can expect to see include:
–Team roping
–Bareback riding
–Bull riding
–Saddle bronc
–Tie-down roping
All these events, combined with many of the world’s top-ranked rodeo competitors, add up to what is sure to be two days of excitement the likes of which California hasn’t seen in a long time.
Supporting the Community
As all rodeo fans and competitors know, “passing the hat” to help support those in need has always been a rodeo tradition, and the PRCA Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo does this better than perhaps any rodeo in the United States. For many fans and competitors alike, what makes this rodeo so special is the fact that all proceeds from the rodeo go to support numerous local charities. Among the charities that will benefit from this year’s rodeo are:
San Juan Capistrano Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs
Shea Therapeutic Riding Center
–CHOC Children’s at Mission Hospital
Justin Sportsmedicine
With the generous support of area rodeo fans, the PRCA Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo has donated over $2 million to these and other charities over the years.

Peter Varlet

Peter Varlet’s the cowboy critic you love to hate, until he’s right. Born during a thunderstorm in 1972 in Bismarck, North Dakota, he grew up watching his WWII vet dad battle to save their farm from corporate claws. Now, Peter’s the unapologetic voice of Western culture, with a historian’s grip on America’s past, acknowledging both its heroes and hypocrites. His truth to power articles are a no-holds-barred zone for rodeo reviews, cowboy movie takedowns, and ranching tricks that work. He’ll tell you why your country singer’s a fraud and how to fix a fence with only baling wire and spite. Peter despises corporate factory farms taking over and cherishes the DIY grit of real Americans. Politically correct? Nope. Trustworthy? Damn straight. He’s saving the West, one brutal truth at a time.
