A Historic Rise: Voted #2 in Just Two Years Perhaps the most incredible part of the Rio’s story is how quickly it captured the hearts of rodeo fans. In the official Las Vegas Events (LVE) post-event voting, the gold standard for fan feedback, the Rio Round-Up was voted the #2 Viewing Party in all of Las Vegas. What makes this achievement truly legendary? This was only the Rio’s second year hosting the event. To climb to the #2 spot against legacy venues that have hosted parties for decades is a testament to the community, the energy, and the grit of the Rio team. It isn’t just a viewing party anymore; it’s an NFR powerhouse.

The Heartbeat of the NFR: Why the Rio Round-Up Stole the Show in 2025

There is a specific kind of magic that settles over Las Vegas in December. It’s the scent of fresh leather and worn denim, the rhythmic clack of boots on marble floors, and an electricity in the air that tells you the National Finals Rodeo has arrived. But in 2025, that heartbeat didn’t just stay at the Thomas & Mack Center. It found a new home, a louder roar, and a bigger soul at the Rio Round-Up.

If you weren’t there, you felt the FOMO through your phone screen. If you were there, you know exactly why Rio Hotel & Casino was voted one of the absolute best viewing parties of the year.

Follow the Glow to the Action

In a city of a million lights, Rio stood out like a North Star for the Western world. This past season, you didn’t even need a map to find the party; you just had to look up. The iconic Robe lights from Rio’s rooftop pierced the desert sky, acting as a beacon that led thousands of fans straight to where the action was happening. Like a modern-day campfire, those lights signaled to every cowboy and cowgirl in town that the best seat in Vegas was waiting just off the Strip.

More Than a Screen;  It was a Spectacle

Walking into the Masquerade Village during the 2025 NFR felt like stepping into the arena itself. The Rio didn’t just “show” the rodeo; they celebrated it. With massive wall-to-wall screens and a sound system that let you hear every grunt of a bull and every whistle of the wind, the atmosphere was nothing short of cinematic.

The engine behind this energy is none other than Matt Merritt. Fresh off being named the 2025 PRCA Clown of the Year, Merritt proved why he is the gold standard of rodeo entertainment. His “off the hip” humor and infectious dance moves turned the viewing party into a live arena experience. Fans were treated to his most iconic skits that have made him a household name, from the hilarious “Wind Tunnel” routine that leaves the audience of over 1000 in stitches to the high-stakes comedy of his  “Quarter Barrel Race.” Whether he’s in the barrel or behind the mic, Merritt’s ability to connect with the crowd is what makes the Rio Round-Up feel like home.

Every successful ride felt like a personal victory shared with a thousand new friends. It was the “Best Seat in Vegas” because it offered the one thing money can’t buy: unfiltered, collective passion.

A True Family Affair

While Las Vegas is known for its nightlife, Rio Round-Up carved out a special place as a premier family-friendly destination. In 2025, the village was filled with multiple generations of rodeo fans. From “mutton busters” in training to seasoned ranch hands, the environment was designed to be safe, welcoming, and exhilarating for all ages. It’s a place where kids can experience the magic of the Western lifestyle right alongside their parents, making it more than just a viewing party, it’s where family traditions are born.

The Party That Never Hits the Brakes

The music at the Rio didn’t just start when the sun went down; it was a curated journey of country soul. Every afternoon at 4:00 PM, the energy kicked off with the Up and Comer Artist Showcase. This gave fans a front-row seat to the next generation of stars before they hit the big leagues. For those looking for a slightly more intimate vibe, the Lapa Lounge became the ultimate destination. With live acoustic sets and a sophisticated atmosphere, it provided the perfect soundtrack for fans to talk shop and swap rodeo stories over a drink.

While other venues wound down after the final buzzer, the Rio Round-Up was just getting its second wind. The transition from the high-stakes tension of the dirt to the neon-lit euphoria of the dance floor was seamless.

Fans witnessed a nightly lineup of country royalty.  The stage was ignited by the red-dirt grit of the Neon Prophets, bringing that authentic Texas music soul to the desert. The energy stayed high with the versatile, crowd-pleasing sounds of Western Fusion and the high-octane rock-country crossover of Left of Centre. From the 90s nostalgia of Ricochet and the powerhouse vocals of Mae Estes to the relentless sets of Nathan Dean and the Damn Band, Rio became a sea of moving hats and spinning boots. With one of the largest dance floors in the city, it proved that in Vegas, the rodeo is just the opening act.

Biography:

I grew up on a Midwest farm with dirt under my fingernails and the sound of wind rustling through cornfields. My childhood was all about 4H – raising pigs and horses, learning to bake and sew, and discovering the magic of transforming a garden into jars of summer sunshine. Those years taught me the value of hard work, the thrill of seeing a project through to the end, and the simple joy of creating something beautiful. A country girl with a need for speed and a thirst for adventure. Maybe that's why I love the feeling of wind in my hair – whether I'm cruising down a dusty road on my Harley or tackling a mountain trail on my trusty mountain bike. Some of my earliest memories of rodeo are watching my father compete at small local events. That's also where my love for country music comes in – long car rides listening to 8 tracks. The lyrics and melodies always spoke to my soul. These days, you'll find me cheering on the cowboys and cowgirls at rodeos, two-stepping to my favorite bands, belting out a country tune at a concert or sharing stories and laughter with friends around a bonfire. When I'm not soaking up the country life and getting my boots dirty, I'm a nurse, caring for folks in my community. Follow along for more stories from the heart of rodeo and country life!
