The festivities began in 1938 with a few competitive events and a stock show that boasted 16 animals. Today, the Rodeo Austin includes various PRCA contests along with a carnival and world-class livestock show. The Austin Rodeo and Fair sponsors a scholarship program designed to assist thousands of youth across the state by donating millions toward educational pursuits.
PRCA Rodeo
Staying true to Western tradition, the Austin Rodeo and Fair provides spectators with the chance to watch top-ranked athletes from across the country compete for the PRCA championship title. The list of competitions include:
Barrel racing
Saddle bronc riding
Steer wrestling
Tie-down roping
Bull riding
Some of last year’s champions may be on hand to compete. The long list of winning athletes includes bareback rider Tanner Aus, steer wrestler Tommy Cook and saddle bronc rider Zeke Thurston.
Special events include the endearing mutton busting competition, a youth art show and the ultimate scramble championship. On March 2 and 3, the venue hosts the annual BBQ Austin where individuals and teams compete in a cook-off to win the coveted title.
Live Concerts
During the entire two weeks of Rodeo Austin, visitors have the chance to attend more than 100 live musical performances. Some of the many celebrity entertainers expected to entertain crowds with a variety of music genres include Josh Turner, Tracy Lawrence, Kevin Fowler, Duelo, Ludacris and Gladys Knight.
Austin Rodeo and Fair tickets are available throughout the two weeks on-site at the ticket windows. However, potential guests can beat the crowds by purchasing here. Prices range from $20 to $175.
Live Media Coverage
In the event you cannot attend all of the festivities, members from the Cowboy Lifestyle Network, the Ak-Chin Indian Community, Earnhardt Auto Centers and the Papa John’s Road Team plan on providing coverage of the festivities and PRCA events.[/vc_column_text][vc_masonry_media_grid grid_id=”vc_gid:1521155843638-72634050-277c-6″ include=”41650,41651,41652,41653,41654″][vc_single_image image=”27253″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” >
