There will be a carnival, food vendors, boutiques, and other small businesses set up for shopping and of course, the rodeo will be taking place every night with the grand entry starting at 7 pm. The gates will be open to the public at 5 pm giving you plenty of time to shop, eat and drink before the mutton bustin kicks off at 6:30 pm. Saturday, June 24th they will be doing the crowning of rodeo royalty prior to the grand entry.
Back in 1949 is when Rodeo De Santa Fe was born. When a group of guys by the names of Austin Green, Roy Butler, Gene Petchesky, Paul Ragle, Paul Rutledge (and a few others whose names are not mentioned) came together one day and made a dream into reality. With some hard work and determination, they were able to organize a PRCA rodeo in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Rodeo De Santa Fe is now in the top 60 pro rodeos in the nation. Drawing in around 500 contestants last year, that did include multiple world champion cowgirls and cowboys. Rodeo De Santa Fe does expect to have another contestant lineup like last year.
During the rodeo, you should expect to see performances from the famous John Payne aka the “One Armed Bandit”, who puts on a one-of-a-kind performance! There will also be a youth barrel race and the exceptional rodeo which will take place on Saturday, June 24th, from 10 AM until 2 PM. The exceptional rodeo will be open to both children and adults with physical and mental exceptionalities, there will be events set up that will simulate a rodeo.
