About Rodeo de Santa Fe

With this year being the 73rd Annual Rodeo de Santa Fe, the event has roots that run deep and make for strong traditions. In 1949, a handful of cowboys, including Roy Butler, Austin “Slim” Green, Gene Petchesky, Paul Ragle, and Paul Rutledge, had a dream to produce a professional rodeo in the small town of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Since then, it has grown to be one of the top 60 PRCA rodeos in the nation bringing in nearly 500 contestants.

Each year, the event brings in, not only the top competitors but the top stock contractors, specialty acts, barrel men, sound men, and announcers. This year’s contract lineup includes Trick Rider Bethany Iles; Bullfighters Cauy Kraut, Luke Kraut, and Kyle O’Hair; Trick Roper Rider Kiesner; Rodeo Announcer James Horcasitas; and the Harry Vold Rodeo Company.

In 2021, the event was held in September rather than June. The 2021 champions include Paden Bray, Cole Franks, Bridger Anderson, Cody Snow, Wesley Thorp, Shorty Garrett, Jake Pratt, Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi, and Scottie Knapp.

Originally from Earth, Texas, a small town in the Texas panhandle, I was raised around rodeo, agriculture, and the western lifestyle. With a degree from Texas A&M University, I have found a passion for promoting the lifestyle that made me who I am today. I am an experienced writer, marketer, and event professional with a strong desire to share the stories of those in our industry. When I’m not busy seeking out ways to promote the western way of life, I enjoy following those I care about around to rodeos, hunting, and going on runs with my blue-eyed, blue-merle Australian Shepherd.
