Rodeo Scottsdale: Jason Boland and the Stragglers

Written by

Come out and experience one of the oldest sanctioned rodeos in the country, March 5-8th, 2020, the Parada del Sol Rodeo Scottsdale in beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona! Rodeo Scottsdale events include bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, team roping, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, and bull riding, along with non-stop family fun. One of the main attractions this year is Jason Boland and the Stragglers, performing as they make a stop at the rodeo during their Pearl Snaps 20th Anniversary Tour.

Originally from Stillwater, Oklahoma (now hailing from Austin, Texas), Jason Boland & the Stranglers are a red dirt country band that’s sure to keep the audience engaged and singing along to the songs of their lives. In their biography, Jason states, “Our favorite songs are like one-night stands: passionate or sad, capable of recalling moments with Proustian power. Our favorite artists are lifelong companions: fixtures we turn to for comfort and highs.” Inspired by artists such as Merle Haggard, Stoney LaRue, and Kid Rock, Boland says, “We’ve always just wanted to entertain ourselves and put out music that would be a part of people’s lives, not just something passing to them,” says Boland. “We want to be something more monolithic.” He pauses and grins as he adds, “We’re just a social experiment at this point.”

20 years ago, Jason Boland and the Stragglers released their debut album, Pearl Snaps. For the last two decades, Boland has stayed true to his sound and message within his lyrics. Despite regional popularity, Jason and his guys still remain one of the best-kept secrets in red dirt country music. Want to get in on the secret and hear them first hand? Check them out on Saturday, March 7th at WestWorld in Scottsdale. General Admission and available box seat tickets will be on sale at the ticket office at WestWorld. For information on remaining box seats available, call 480-648-4369. Can’t make it to Parada del Sol, but still want to catch a show? Visit their tour website for more stops: Jason Boland and the Stragglers.

In addition, the Scottsdale Charros are fully embedded into everything Rodeo Scottsdale. Many sponsors make the rodeo happen each year, and one of the newest partners is the Scottsdale Charros. This will be the second year that the Charros will be a part of the rodeo fun. We were lucky enough to sit down with the Chairman of the Bullpen, which is the VIP section that the Charros host at Scottsdale Rodeo. Jason has been serving with the Scottsdale Charros for five years, this year being his fifth.
