At the 2011 RodeoHouston in the Reliant Stadium, Shane Hanchey won the Tie-Down Roping Champion title and $53,000 prize.
Three years ago, Billy Bugenig and Shane Hanchey entered rodeos with the goal of qualifying for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (WNFR), one of those rodeos was the National Western Stock Show Rodeo held every January for the past 106 years in Denver. Both of these men accomplished that goal in 2010 and again in 2011, Bugenig from Ferndale, Calif., in steer wrestling and Hanchey from Sulphur, La., in tie-down roping. Now they want to make the trip back to Las Vegas in December of 2012 to compete at rodeo’s championship event again and hopefully earn the gold buckle that signifies they are the world’s best.
