Rooted in Tradition: Redding Rodeo 2025

Written by

Nestled along the beautiful Sacramento River, a California community rich in agricultural history turned a humble rodeo dream into a reality in the 1940s when John Balma of the Redding, California, Shasta County Sheriff’s Posse sought to celebrate his love of rodeo while showcasing the past, present, and future of his cherished community. Through Balma’s passionate advocacy, the dedication of Redding’s residents, and the establishment of the Redding Rodeo Association, the Redding Rodeo came to life.

Rodeo Performance Honors Indigenous Community

Among the many standout attractions of the 2025 Redding Rodeo is the highly anticipated Native American Appreciation Night, taking place on Wednesday, May 14th at 7 pm. Brought to you by Redding Rancheria, a federally recognized tribe in Shasta County representing members of Pit River, Wintu, and Yana decent, this significant evening promises captivating entertainment and meaningful cultural exchange as the community comes together to honor and celebrate the rich heritage and cherished traditions of Native American Tribes that have called Northern California home for generations.

Setting the Tone

Setting the tone for a remarkable evening, the festivities will kick off with a grand stagecoach entrance featuring Redding Rancheria Chairman Jack Potter. Following his entrance, the audience will be treated to a heartfelt performance of The National Anthem by esteemed vocalist Dove Jeude. Adding a profound cultural touch to the performance, Jeude will deliver the National Anthem in her native language, Mono Lake Paiute. After the performance, another singer will sing the Star Spangled Banner. The evening’s celebration will continue with displays of traditional Native American dances, brought to life by talented performers adorned in beautifully crafted regalia.
