History

A dream was made into a reality starting with a young boy from England,Β Harry RowellΒ also known as, β€œThe Rodeo King of the West”. In 1912 he left the Royal Navy and immigrated to the United States where his vision came to life. Harry boxed professionally, started a successful canned dog food factory, built a ranch, and launched a saddle shop that became the best patronized shop on the West Coast. In other words, Harry was a rancher, businessman, and philanthropist.

The Start of Something Extraordinary in 1921

In 1921 Harry created a local treasure, the Rowell Ranch Rodeo. The rodeo was originally launched on the athletic fields of the Burbank School in downtown Hayward, California. In 1925 the rodeo moved over to Harry’s Dublin Canyon ranch which is the current site of Rowell Ranch Rodeo Park.

Biggest Stock Contractor in the West

Harry became well known for being one of the biggest rodeo stock contractor in the West. He supplied rodeos with the best rodeo animals around. Harry and his wife, Maggie Rowell wanted to make sure future generations always have an opportunity to experience the same American rodeo traditions. His ranch had also become a second home for rodeo cowboys, the doors were always open to the bunkhouse and the cookshack. There was always enough work for a cowboy to β€œearn his keep”. Harry Rowell was born in 1891 and he passed away on August 23, 1969. His legacy lives on today through the Rowell Ranch Pro Rodeo.
