San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo 2022
The 2022 San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo says it’s “More Than an 8 Second Ride!” and the Cowboy Lifestyle Network completely agrees! The big show kicks off on February 10th and runs clear through February 27th with something for literally everyone. The time between the start and end of this event is jam-packed with shows, competitions, and concerts to keep anyone and everyone entertained.
The livestock show kicks off on February 10th with junior exhibitors presenting their hard work through various species, including cattle, hogs, goats, sheep, chickens, and even turkeys every day of the event. Open competition is available for cattle exhibitors, as well. Other opportunities for folks to compete include junior shoot-outs, horse show, western art competition, agriculture mechanics competition, and calf scramble, just to name a few.
The rodeo is an obvious draw to this buzz-worthy event. The rodeo includes 19 PRCA performances followed by entertainment and special rodeo performances on specific nights with doors opening 90 minutes before each performance. Each action-packed PRCA Rodeo kicks off with the patriotic Grand Entry and features bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing, and bull riding.
The San Antonio Rodeo is sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA). Opportunities to get up close and personal with the rodeo stars are available through the rodeo star experience package. This includes a first-class private dinner and dining section, 2 drink tickets (redeemable at selected Aramark locations), rodeo performance seats in the “Fan Zone,” and stage-side seating on the “dirt” during the concert.
The special rodeo performances mentioned above include the Noche Del Vaquero, a celebration of South Texas heritage honoring our culture’s traditions, artistic skills, and pageantry. See Ballet Folkloricó, escaramuzas, Bull & Bronco riding, charro and mariachi exhibitions. The ranch rodeo competition, another exceptional performance featured on specific nights, is a throwback to the old west when neighboring ranches would get together to see whose cowboys were the best riders, the best ropers, and generally the toughest hands. Teams of real working cowboys in direct competition with one another in events similar to the tasks they face every day, such as steer loading, calf branding, roping, and some fun events as well.
If the music scene is more your style, don’t think you’ll be left out! Concerts happen almost every night. Toby Keith kicks it off with a performance on February 10th, and the famous country band Midland performs the following evening on February 11th. Red dirt country star Wade Bowen is set to perform on February 13th from 1 pm to 4 pm, followed by the legendary Tanya Tucker from 7 pm to 11 pm. Lady A gets on stage on February 15th with Brad Paisley the following night, February 16th, and Sam Hunt the night after. From there, the concert stage gets a little more diverse, with performances from Ludacris, 3 Doors Down, STYX, and Ryan Bingham. We can’t forget the biggest star of them all, Tim McGraw, who takes the stage on February 19th.
If none of that draws you in, there is always the carnival, shopping, and festival to enjoy open Sunday through Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm, and Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 9 pm. This year the Shops at the rodeo are under one roof for your purchasing ease. Shop, drink, dance, and explore in the newly renovated Expo Mall. We can’t forget the Bustin’ in the Barns, a mutton bustin’ experience giving more than 1,500 opportunities for riders to compete for a spot in the wildcard performance on February 25th.
The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo is way more than just a rodeo and really does have something for everyone. You don’t want to miss it!
