A distinct buzz is in the air as Odessa, Texas gears up for one of the first major rodeos of the year. The Sandhills Stock Show and Rodeo are on its way and this is an event you don’t want to miss! Book your rooms from Thursday, January 6th to Saturday, January 15, 2022, so you can catch all the action. Big rodeo names make this one of their first stops each year with names like Will Lowe, Stetson Wright, and Ivy Saebens leading the pack in last year’s performance.
While the rodeo may pull the crowds, the stock show is a major part of this event. It boasts an array of species including goats, sheep, and cattle. This unique event is the only stock show in Texas exclusively showing Hereford cattle along with only fine wool sheep. The distinction of these breeds gives assurance to the high quality of the livestock produced for this show. On top of that, youth who participate in the show have future opportunities to apply for scholarships. The junior livestock sale happens on the first Saturday of the show, January 8th, which is an excellent chance to use some of your spending money to support the future of the livestock industry.
After you spend some hard-earned cash on hard-working kids, check out the rodeo performances which are happening Thursday, January 6th, Friday, January 7th, and Saturday, January 8th. Saturday, January 8th hosts the first annual Ropin’ in the Sandhills Ladies Breakaway Roping with $5,000 added. While some weeks might feel like they take a century, the week between the stock show and rodeo performances won’t so you’ll want to stick around to catch the team roping, breakaway roping, and rodeo slack. Make sure to check out the vendors who boast a wide array of fashion items, roping and riding needs, and souvenirs to take back to the family. The excitement kicks back up on Thursday, January 13th with rodeo performances every night heading into the weekend.
