Helotes, Texas – The one and only Helotes Cornyval and PRCA Rodeo 2023 is kicking off on Thursday, May 4th, Friday, May 5th, and Saturday, May 6th, 2023, with the Helotes Festival Association’s Award Winning PRCA Rodeo, held in conjunction with the Helotes Festival’s 57th Cornyval which runs through Sunday, May 7th. Helotes is located on the far northwest side of San Antonio, Texas in Bexar County at 12210 Leslie Rd, Helotes, TX 78023.
This outstanding event began 57 years ago in the heart of Texas, a small town that is now called Helotes. This quaint community had its very first post office built and what no better thing to do than to throw a celebration. That celebration was just the beginning of the Cornyval Festival.

The Cornyval Festival was originally held downtown Helotes in front of John T. Floore Country Store right on Bandera Road. In the beginning, Cornyval started as a carnival with food booths. Soon enough, Cornyval moved to its new grounds located on Leslie Road. The rodeo finally got to join the Cornyval team and take place on the new grounds in a little arena out in the parking lot. The rodeo has now moved to a different place with a bigger arena on the same property. This will be the 57th year of Cornyval and the 34th year of the PRCA Rodeo this year.
Having good dirt in an arena is key, Helotes PRCA Rodeo has won “Best Dirt of the Year” award. Cornyval has also made it to the top three of PRCA’s “Best Small Rodeo” of the year a couple of times. As of last year, Cornyval is considered one of PRCA’s medium-sized rodeos, we’re thrilled to see them growing!
The Cornyval Festival and PRCA Rodeo has grown tremendously over the years. Starting off, Cornyval was lucky to bring in 12,000-15,000 people in a 4-day event. Now they’re bringing in almost 100,000 people each year! The rodeo has grown progressively year after year and keeps on getting bigger and better! The news is spreading that this is an all-time event that you don’t want to miss out on.
The Cornyval site is spacious and lush, consisting of 48 acres filled with beautiful trees that make for good shade in the hotter months. In addition to the beautiful scenery, there’s a dance area, a rodeo arena with box seats, permanent restrooms, an office, and a covered pavilion has been added to the property. Permanent booths have also been built for vendors/local non-profits and for ticket sales.

There is still so much in store for the Cornyval grounds and the committee is excited to see it grow and improve year after year. All these changes are possible because of the amazing volunteers that Cornyval has. The grounds are also available throughout the year to rent out by various organizations.
