Steamboat Springs, Colorado is known for being a modest Northwest Colorado ranch town, and it is also home to a world-class ski resort. Steamboat Springs has a long and rich history that can be traced back over 100 years. With a community full of cowboys and cowgirls, they would breed their horses to work. On weekends the cowboys and cowgirls would gather placing casual bets on who could ride their large and a bit ornery livestock. Little did these cowboys and cowgirls know that they had an in impromptu rodeo-type competition in place.
Fast forward to 1988, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) sanctioned the first and last weekends of the 10-week series known as Ski Town Stampede I & II. In 1989 the committee decided it was time to go βall-proβ and became fully sanctioned by the PRCA. In 2002 the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series was awarded the Small Outdoor Rodeo of the Year.
The Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series held at the Brent Romick Rodeo Arena is just a couple blocks from downtown neat 5th Street and Howelsen Parkway in the Howelsen Hill Sports Complex. The rodeo starts at 7:30 pm on Friday and Saturday. For entertainment, a variety of local artists perform every Friday and Saturday night before the rodeo beginning at 6:00 pm.
