Whether you call home a skyscraper in the city or a ranch down a long, dirt road, the Spirit of the West can be embodied regardless of where you live. Here at Cowboy Lifestyle Network, we not only embrace the businesses and the events that make this industry what it is but the fans and people that support it as well. In the summer issue of Cowboy Lifestyle Magazine, released today, the Spirit of the West is alive and well as told by our team of authors. Below you find short snippets of some of the highlight stories and at any point, you can click the images or links for the full story.
The summer rodeos that contestants all around the country have been waiting for. These rodeos take place over the Fourth of July weekend every year. The total amount of rodeos over this weekend is about 30, all competing to have athletes come to try their hand at getting a payout to add to their earnings towards the NFR. This last summer run is crucial for the cowboys and cowgirls trying to secure their spot in the top 15 before the season ends at the end of September. This feature was particularly special for me to create because it envelops all the stories curated for this edition of the magazine. In addition to the poem being exclusively created for this issue, I also found an amazing photographer whose style perfectly matched the poem and opening of the magazine. I want to give a HUGE shoutout to Phyllis Burchett Photography for supplying not only the photos for this feature but also the cover photo of the magazine. If you like what you see here then make sure to keep an eye out for her “Through the Lens” feature in the fall issue of Cowboy Lifestyle Magazine. Read the full poem and introduction here.
Phyllis Burchette is a professional, US-based photographer who has been in and around the horse industry even prior to being a photographer. She was bitten by the photography bug, along with a severe case of wanderlust, having traveled the Earth capturing the amazing creatures that inhabit the world with us. She found herself captivated by the birds, bears, and stunning landscape of the United States and Canada, in awe of the beautiful White Horses of the Camargue in France, documented the Horse Fishermen of Belgium, depicted the Connemara Pony of Ireland, and highlighted the iconic landscape and horses of Iceland. In addition, her style of photography perfectly matched the vision for the opening of this magazine and we can’t wait to feature her in the fall issue of Cowboy Lifestyle Magazine. You can find more about Phyllis and her photography at PhyllisBurchettpPhoto.net.
In this issue of the magazine, I was able to sit down with Bull Riding Champion and Positive Changemaker, Gary Leffew to chat about his life accomplishments and upcoming podcast. You heard that right, the guru is releasing his very own podcast exclusively through the Cowboy Lifestyle Podcast Network. This is the first podcast of many that we hope to be hosting on our network, if you’re interested in that, please send me an email at krysta@clngo.com. You can read Gary’s full interview and intro to his podcast here or click the image below.
The Elk Horn Ranch story was created by one of our authors, Tiffany Selchow, and showcases the beauty of the Sonoran Desert while also highlighting a multigenerational dude ranch. The Elk Horn Ranch, located in Tucson, Arizona prides itself on providing its guests with a one-of-a-kind experience that is hard to find anywhere else. With over 10 activities ranging from horseback riding to swimming, the Elk Horn has something for the whole family with views that are to die for. Being a rodeo athlete is not for the faint of heart. The Cowboy Lifestyle crew was able to sit down with Nicole and get a bird’s eye perspective on what it’s like being on the rodeo road and how Nicole navigates being a full-time rodeo athlete and horse trainer. See the full interview here or click the image below!
Speaking of athletes, our author, Lindsi Rian sat down with 7x World Champion, Sage Kimzey from Team Polaris, to catch and see how the 2022 season was treating him and what his plans were for the rest of the year. This interview was fantastic to put together and it’s always a great feeling when you get to interview a legend. Sage Kimzey is currently sitting number 3 in the world and we are sure that he is headed towards his ninth National Finals Rodeo, but will it be his eighth World Championship? Only time will tell!
