The richest weekend in western sports returns, awarding over $3 million in prize money & will be broadcast live on The Cowboy Channel and RFD-TV.
Las Vegas, Nevada had a great turnout for the 2021 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) in December. Now, after coming off that high note, we lead into Arlington, Texas’ legendary event, The American Rodeo. The American Rodeo presented by Durango Boots is moving forward with its scheduled 2022 dates and tickets will be going on sale to the general public starting Friday, January 15th at 10 am CT.
The 13-day event will take place starting February 20th in Fort Worth’s Cowtown Coliseum semi-final rounds. Where the top competitors in each discipline will advance to the Short-Go in AT&T Stadium. Arlington’s AT&T Stadium for the final round will be held on March 6th, at 1:00 PM (CST).
“I’m a known rodeo fan and really admire the strength and determination of the athletes,” said Jerry Jones, Owner, President, and General Manager of the Dallas Cowboys. “The American Rodeo boasts a life-changing prize purse for these competitors, and I couldn’t be more thrilled that it is returning to AT&T Stadium.”
For the last year, competitors around the United States have been working hard to get qualified for The American Rodeo. Nearly 4,000 competitors have a chance to qualify by competing at any of the 70 qualifier rodeos throughout the year. Giving them the chance to compete for huge money in Texas. Once, they get to Fort Worth for the next set of competitions, The athletes will compete to try to advance to the final round. The American Rodeo unites the top athletes in the world from the PRCA and pits them against underdogs who advance from The American Rodeo Semi-Finals, together to battle for the biggest single check for life-changing amounts of money. After the final contenders round on March 5th, the top 10 in each event will go on to Arlington to the Final Shootout Round.
A new and exciting addition to this year’s The American is a new reality TV show, “Guts and Glory” hosted by bull rider JB Mauney and barrel racer Tammy Fischer. These two will follow athletes that compete in a series of saddle bronc, tie-down roping, and barrel racing challenges. The winner of each event will have a chance to move on to AT&T Stadium for The American and an opportunity for a substantial payout. The news of the new TV show was announced by Teton Ridge, who purchased the American Rodeo last year.
This year’s The American payout has increased. Competitors will have a chance to win $100,000 in each of their individual disciplines and a chance at a $2 million bonus side pot this year. This bonus includes last year’s $1 million dollar purse carryover since there was no declared winner of the bonus side pot. This year is the first year for breakaway roping competitors to have a chance to compete for the $2 million side pot.
