The Heartbeat of the Desert: Why You Can’t Miss the 2026 WM Phoenix Open

Country Lifestyles

There is a specific kind of magic that happens when the Arizona sun hits the emerald fairways of TPC Scottsdale. It’s more than just a golf tournament; it’s a high-octane celebration of life, a roar of a stadium crowd that vibrates in your chest, and a profound mission to give back to the community we love.

The 2026 WM Phoenix Open is returning from February 2nd to the 8th, and if you’ve ever wanted to feel the true pulse of the desert, this is where you belong. Known affectionately as “The People’s Open,” this event bridges the gap between the quiet intensity of professional golf and the soul-stirring energy of a rock concert.

The Legendary 16th Hole: A Stadium of Dreams

For first-timers, words can’t quite describe the 16th hole. Imagine 16,000 people holding their breath in unison as a pro steps up to the tee, followed by a literal explosion of joy that can be heard for miles. It is the only place in the world where golf feels like a championship football game. It’s loud, it’s proud, and it’s a bucket-list experience that will stay with you forever.

Your 2026 Journey: The Schedule of Events

Whether you’re here for the world-class athletes or the neon lights of the Bird’s Nest, there is a moment waiting just for you.

  • January 31st: Concert in the Coliseum – Before the first ball is even struck, we kick things off with a massive celebration right in the middle of the 16th fairway. Expect a star-studded lineup when internationally acclaimed rock band The Killers, with special guest Tyler Hubbard, kick off the event and set the tone for the wildest week in sports.  The event is 21 +.
  • February 2nd – 3rd: Ford Free Days – The gates swing open for everyone. These practice rounds are the perfect time to bring the family, breathe in the fresh air, and see the pros up close without the weekend crush.
    • Special Event: Don’t miss the Special Olympics Putting Challenge on Tuesday, a heart-tugging reminder of why we play this game.
  • February 4th: The Annexus Pro-Am – See your favorite celebrities and athletes test their grit, followed by the high-stakes Shot at Glory.
  • February 5th – 8th: The Main Event & Birds Nest – The competition intensifies as 132 of the world’s best battle for a multi-million dollar purse. As the sun sets, the Coors Light Birds Nest transforms the desert night into a legendary party with world-class music icons.
  • February 7th: The “Green Out” – Saturday isn’t just about golf; it’s about a movement. Wear your green to support the tournament’s incredible sustainability efforts. ALL DAY GREEN OUT – for every person who wears green, a donation will be made to the WM PHOENIX OPEN WORKING FOR TOMORROW fund, benefitting programs that provide environmental solutions to underserved communities.

Free Admission for Heroes

One of the most beautiful traditions of “The People’s Open” is its unwavering support for our nation’s heroes. For 2026, the Thunderbirds are continuing their legacy of gratitude by offering complimentary admission to military members and first responders. Here is how you can take advantage of these special perks:

The WM Phoenix Open provides free General Admission tickets (plus one guest!) to the following groups:

  • U.S. Military: All Active, Reserve, Veteran, and Retired personnel.
  • First Responders: All Active U.S. Law Enforcement, Firefighters, and EMTs.

How to get your tickets:

To ensure a smooth entry, you must verify your status in advance through these official portals (a small digital delivery fee may apply):

Military/Veterans: Register at VetTix.org.

First Responders: Register at 1stTix.org.

Note: Tickets are limited per day and often sell out quickly, so it is highly recommended to register as soon as possible to secure your spot!

The Patriots Outpost

As an extra “thank you,” military personnel (Active, Reserve, Veterans, and Retired) have access to the Birdies for the Brave Patriots Outpost. Located in a prime spot overlooking the 18th fairway, this exclusive hospitality tent offers:

  • Complimentary food and beverages.
  • A relaxed, climate-controlled environment to watch the dramatic finishing hole.
  • Access: You’ll just need to show your official military ID at the Outpost entrance. You are welcome to bring one guest to share in the experience.

Quick Tips for Service Members

  • Bring your ID: Even with a digital ticket, having your military or service ID handy is required for Outpost access.
  • Parking: Remember that free admission doesn’t include parking; I recommend looking into the free shuttles from the WestWorld lot to save a few dollars and avoid the traffic stress.

Coors Light Bird’s Nest

The Coors Light Birds Nest isn’t just a concert series; it’s a legendary four-night pulse that transforms North Scottsdale into the hottest nightclub in the country. As the sun dips below the McDowell Mountains and the final putts drop, the energy shifts from the fairway to the “Nest” a massive, high-production tent where the music is loud, the people are beautiful, and the memories are permanent.

For 2026, the lineup is a masterclass in genre-blending, featuring everything from gritty country anthems to global dance floor fillers.

Join the Celebration

While the cheers at the 16th hole are unforgettable, the true legacy of the WM Phoenix Open is written in the lives it changes long after the last putt drops. The Thunderbirds are not just tournament hosts; they are guardians of our community. As of the start of the 2026 season, the Thunderbirds have raised a staggering total of over $226 million for Arizona charities throughout the tournament’s 91-year history.

The WM Phoenix Open and the tournament host Thunderbirds raise money for Arizona charities, most of which provide programs that benefit youth. Recent beneficiaries include Child Crisis Arizona,St. Mary’s Food Bank, Special Olympics Arizona, and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley. The impact of this tournament has accelerated at a breathtaking pace. In the last decade alone, the event has contributed more than $120 million to those in need.

A “Green” Heart: Beyond general giving, the Working For Tomorrow Fund™ has raised over $800,000 specifically for sustainability projects across Arizona, ensuring the desert we love stays vibrant for the next generation. For more information visit www.wmphoenixopen.com.

2025 Record: The most recent tournament set an all-time record, raising $18.1 million in a single year.

The “WM” Era: Since Waste Management became the title sponsor in 2010, the partnership has generated more than $160 million for local nonprofits.

Parking

Navigating the massive crowds of the WM Phoenix Open is an art form, but with a little planning, you can avoid the stress and stay focused on the fun. Here is how to get to TPC Scottsdale like a pro for 2026.

Free General Public Parking & Shuttles

The best way to save your energy (and money!) is to use the free parking lots provided by The Thunderbirds. Once you park, hop on a complimentary shuttle that drops you right at the tournament gates. If you are coming from the East Valley, Salt River Fields is a hidden gem. It’s about 8 miles south of the course, but it often has shorter lines and keeps you away from the heavy Loop 101 traffic near the stadium.

“Fans can actually park at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess (or rideshare here) and enter through the exclusive official 5th fairway entrance. The area will also be activated with food, drinks, games, and golf simulators.”

Fairmont Scottsdale Princess

Rideshare & Taxis (The “Stop & Drop”)

If you prefer to let someone else handle the driving, Lot R is your destination. For safety and crowd control, rideshare drivers (Uber, Lyft, Waymo) are not allowed to drop off at the tournament gates or on the surrounding streets.

  • Location: Lot R is located at the Bell94 Sports Complex (9390 E Bell Rd).
  • The Process: Your driver will drop you at Lot R, and a dedicated shuttle will whisk you the short distance to the tournament entrance.
  • Leaving the Event: Head back to the shuttle area at the tournament gate and look for the “Rideshare/Lot R” shuttle. Once you arrive at Lot R, you can request your ride.

Alternate Ways to Arrive

Bicycles: Feeling active? You can park and lock your bike at the Scottsdale Sports Complex (between Lots 2 and 3). It’s about a 10-minute walk to the main entrance.

Walking: If you are lucky enough to stay at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, you have your own private entrance at the 5th fairway with no shuttle required!

A Part of Something that Matters

The 2026 WM Phoenix Open is a testament to the spirit of Scottsdale, bold, beautiful, and big-hearted. Come for the golf, stay for the memories, and leave knowing you’ve been a part of something that truly matters. CLN will see ya at the TPC.

Biography:

I grew up on a Midwest farm with dirt under my fingernails and the sound of wind rustling through cornfields. My childhood was all about 4H – raising pigs and horses, learning to bake and sew, and discovering the magic of transforming a garden into jars of summer sunshine. Those years taught me the value of hard work, the thrill of seeing a project through to the end, and the simple joy of creating something beautiful. A country girl with a need for speed and a thirst for adventure. Maybe that's why I love the feeling of wind in my hair – whether I'm cruising down a dusty road on my Harley or tackling a mountain trail on my trusty mountain bike. Some of my earliest memories of rodeo are watching my father compete at small local events. That's also where my love for country music comes in – long car rides listening to 8 tracks. The lyrics and melodies always spoke to my soul. These days, you'll find me cheering on the cowboys and cowgirls at rodeos, two-stepping to my favorite bands, belting out a country tune at a concert or sharing stories and laughter with friends around a bonfire. When I'm not soaking up the country life and getting my boots dirty, I'm a nurse, caring for folks in my community. Follow along for more stories from the heart of rodeo and country life!
