The Kimes Ranch Million Dollar Breakaway Returns to Scottsdale This Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving usually centers around the table, but this year, there’s a reason to make room for a night out. The Kimes Ranch Million Dollar Breakaway, presented by Boot Barn, returns to WestWorld of Scottsdale November 23–29, bringing the best female breakaway ropers in the world together to compete for $1 million in prize money. For families looking for something different after Thanksgiving dinner, the Million Dollar Breakaway delivers an evening built around fast-paced competition, top-level athletes, and the kind of atmosphere that makes for a memorable holiday.

A Million-Dollar Championship

In breakaway roping, a calf leaves the chute, and the roper races to make a clean bell-collar catch around its neck. Her rope is attached to the saddle horn with a breakaway string, and the clock stops the instant the string breaks. The fastest clean run wins.

Created by Kimes Ranch and producer Chris Neal, the event welcomes competitors without requiring membership and reaches a national audience through CBS Sports Network. For 2026, all 20 finalists advance from the Semi-Finals and Qualifier Finals Performances. Athletes qualify through seven live events – the First Chance Qualifier, Coastal Qualifier, Canadian Qualifier, Oklahoma’s Richest, the Last Chance Qualifier, and the Buy Back Round – as well as the VRQ Leaderboard and PWR (Premier Women’s Rodeo).

A total of 211 competitors feed into the Semi-Finals, from which 17 advance to the Finals. The winners of the Coastal, Canadian, and Oklahoma’s Richest Finals Performances earn automatic Finals berths, creating a 20-athlete Championship Finals field.

“This event is about more than just roping; it’s about celebrating Western culture and giving these incredible women the stage they deserve. That’s why we created the Million $ Breakaway, to bring the energy, recognition and prize money that have long been overdue in this sport. We’re proud to give these women the spotlight and elevate breakaway roping to the level it is due.”

Two Nights of Country Music Fun

Live music follows the competition Friday and Saturday nights, bringing two distinct country sounds to the WestWorld stage.

Friday night features the Logan Ryan Band, known for its blend of Texas Red Dirt Country and Americana. Led by Texas singer-songwriter Logan Ryan Skloss, the band pairs story-driven songwriting with influences ranging from Joe Walsh and The Band to Robert Earl Keen and Charlie Robison.

On Saturday, Ashley McBryde returns to Scottsdale. The GRAMMY, CMA and ACM Award-winning artist draws on traditional country and Southern rock, pairing gritty vocals with candid, detail-rich songwriting. Her catalog includes “A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega,” “One Night Standards” and “The Devil I Know,” songs that reflect her direct approach to storytelling and roots-oriented sound.

Whether you’re planning a night out with family, meeting friends, or simply looking for a different way to spend the holiday, the Million Dollar Breakaway brings together championship roping and live entertainment in one setting. Make this Thanksgiving one to remember!
