Timed events getting tough at College National Finals Rodeo (June 17, 2015).There is a new leader in the tie-down roping at the CNFR.

CASPER, Wyo. (June 16, 2015) – There is a new leader in the tie-down roping at the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) and not surprisingly it was a student at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas, that moved into first place in the overall standings.
Landon Williams, as senior in ag industries roped and tied his calf in 9.4 seconds here on Wednesday night. That is currently fourth in the third round of competition, but gave him an overall time of 29.1 to overtake Western Texas College’s Joshua Walker who also competed in the second performance in the Casper Events Center. Walker is over a second behind Williams with a total time of 30.7 seconds. With two more performances left before Saturday night’s championships, there is opportunity for contestants to close that gap. Both of these ropers will be staying in town with plans to be back here roping for a national title on Saturday.
Hayden Todd from Eastern New Mexico State University took the lead in the third round of barrel racing and goat tying and moved into first place in the women’s all-around standings. Todd, has alrady earned that title twice competing for Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo. She earned those under her maiden name of Segelke. Riding her great horse Rascal in the barrel racing she won the first round during slack competition. An overturned barrel in the second round will keep her from qualifying for the finals.
She also had some bad luck in the previous rounds of goat tying but made up for that on Wednesday. She had a 6.2-second run in the goat tying. Her 13.74 in the barrel racing is the fastest run of the rodeo so far. She leads the all-around category by nearly 100 points with 265. Kirsten Smith from McNeese State University is in second place with 170.
Competition continues here on Thursday with the third performance beginning at 7 p.m.
