Top Things to Do in Abilene, Texas this Summer

Summer is officially here and that means traveling and relaxation is just right around the corner. So why not spend some of that time in Abilene, Texas? Known as the “official storybook capital of America” for its largest public collection of sculptural storybook characters. If you happen to be passing through town or if you are a resident of Abilene, Tx you should check out some of these fun venues that the city has to offer!

Frontier Texas

A western heritage center located in historic downtown. Showing you a glimpse into the Old West through photos, educational programs, reenactments, and much more! It also serves as the official visitor center for Abilene and the Texas Forts Trail Region. 

Upon entering the museum there is a 12-minute introduction in the welcome theater, preparing you for what is to come throughout the rest of your experience. After the video is finished you are free to explore the museum and walk through all nine of the exhibits.

The Winery at Willow Creek

A great spot for the adults, with a gorgeous creekside patio where you can sit and enjoy a bottle of wine with friends! They offer different events such as live music, comedy nights, and occasional food trucks. Go enjoy a night with friends and relax while wine tasting.

Texas High School Rodeo Finals

The real star of the show, the Texas high school finals will be taking place June 1st through the 10th at the Taylor Telecom Arena. Ten days full of competitive competition to see who will be moving on to Nationals. This is a high-stress rodeo and it would mean a lot to the kids competing that people come out to watch and support. Pack up the whole family and spend the day outdoors!

Abilene has lots to offer like the Abilene Zoo, Fort phantom hill, the 1910 Swenson House and there is so much more. The town is rich in history making it a hotspot for great architecture, good food, and a great place for the family!
