For some great memories and wintery fun, pack up the kids and head to Winter Wonderland 2016. Sure to please adults and children alike, Winter Wonderland 2016 is an outdoor holiday-themed event held at the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle and begins Friday, November 11 and runs nightly.

Enjoy ice skating on an outdoor rink – the 40-by-80-foot rink is three times larger than what was offered as a sneak peek over the summer. The rink will be located East of the 347 Grill outdoor patio, a great spot for parents to watch their kids skate. Picnic tables will also be available, and outdoor music will fill the air with festive sounds.

Visit the Holiday Hut outside to rent skates. S’more-making kits will also be sold at the Holiday Hut, and outdoor fire pits will be available for s’more making and as gathering spots for visitors to stay warm. Skating rink hours are noon to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and noon to 8 p.m. on Sundays. Around Thanksgiving break, from November 19 to December 2, the rink will be open additional days and hours, 3-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

On Saturday, November 12, the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center at Ak-Chin Circle celebrates its fourth anniversary. Discount movies and incredible deals on bowling, laser tag, and more make this a great day to visit and enjoy Winter Wonderland 2016 fun, too!

After the turkey dinner is over, make sure you come back out to Winter Wonderland 2016 for Black Friday fun. On Friday, November 26, Santa and Mrs. Claus come to light the Christmas tree and will be available for pictures in the lobby from 5–7 p.m. Ice skating is offered noon to 10 p.m. on Black Friday. Carolyn Sostrom

Carolyn Sostrom is a long-time Arizona resident who loves desert sunsets, warm weather, Zumba, and the Western lifestyle. She attended Saguaro High School in Scottsdale and then Arizona State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Similarly to the protagonist in *The Devil Wears Prada*, Carolyn moved to New York City right after college. She started working for the fashion magazine company Conde Nast but never transitioned to the dark side. After a few years, she left New York in the rearview mirror and returned to her home state, taking a reporter job at the *Apache Junction Independent*. With over 30 years of freelance writing experience, Carolyn especially enjoys writing about community events and profiling individuals who are making a difference in their communities. She had the pleasure of interviewing a variety of cowboy personalities for an article she wrote for the *Scottsdale Independent* about the history of DC Ranch and its roots as a working ranch. Now, her Western adventures with CLN have her diving into the rugged automotive scene, exploring the trucks and rigs cowboys rely on for work, home, and play, a niche where grit meets horsepower. She works at Raising Special Kids, a nonprofit resource center for families of children with disabilities and special healthcare needs. Carolyn also volunteers with the Autism Society of Greater Phoenix. Carolyn believes that everyone has a story, and she loves connecting with others to hear their stories. She’s dedicated to ethical journalism and accurate reporting, which shines through in her storytelling.
