Western Fashion Tips for Early Mornings and All Day Jackpots

Written by

A lot of people get to see the glitz and glam of western fashion, but all of us rodeo wives, girlfriends, moms, and daughters know that there is a much less glamorous side, where getting dressed up in the fringe and sequins, that we all love, just isn’t in the cards.

Cowboy Lifestyle Network talked to several western fashion influencers about how they incorporate style into comfortable, practical outfits for those hot, cold, windy, all-day jackpots or those early morning slacks. Here are the tips they had for us!

Comfortable Jeans

“Sitting all day in the bleachers requires comfortable jeans. I purchased this outfit from Savannah7s. I paired my boyfriend jeans with a fitted tee, jewelry, and cute shoes to dress it up! The perfect way to look dressy but still be able to get around.”

Jumpsuits

“This jumpsuit by Double D RanchWear paired with my Vans, it’s a super easy outfit. It needs nothing more to dress it up, and it is a complete outfit that doesn’t take up too much space in the horse trailer.”

Faux Leather Leggings

“My favorite outfit of all time! Spanx, every girl should own a pair. These faux leather leggings are super cute paired with anything. I went with a Double D RanchWear jacket from the Sparkling Spur, Chelsea Collette Collections jewelry, a white tee and Vans. Simple, functional and cute!”

Graphic Tees and Vans

“I love pairing fun western tees with my Vans! Being a toddler mom, I need functional outfits to keep up with him.

Accessories

“Keep it casual and comfy, especially if it’s an all day event! I like to add small pieces of turquoise jewelry, a belt and some trendy footwear – which often consists of tooled leather sandals, or I also love the Ariat Fuse tennis shoes with the fun prints.”

Matching

“Have fun and match with your kiddo! When it’s 95 degrees outside, the last thing I think about is looking cute. Here, I just threw on matching ball caps and t-shirts, and we were all set!”

Jackets on Hand

“Summer rodeos and fairs can be the hottest days, but as the sun goes down, so does the temperature. Bring a jacket, and leave it in the truck. It is hard to justify jackets in the summer, but I promise having a backup layer somewhere close as the night rolls on will be your saving grace!”

Purses vs. Wallets

“I love me a big western purse. I love to stuff it full of things I never use when out and about, and I like to carry it around. After all, it probably ties my entire look together. Inside of every big purse I have though, I have a tiny purse or little wallet that has my essentials like a credit card and ID. After walking and waiting around, that big purse gets heavy; so I always recommend having a little wallet or mini purse. Put your big purse back in the truck, and just carry around the little thing. It will save your shoulder in the long run!”

Cowboy Hats and Ball Caps

“I have hair extensions, so occasionally wearing a cowboy hat all day starts to hurt my head. I love to keep a ball cap close by to switch out from my cowboy hat. I get really bad hat hair so going without isn’t an option, but a baseball cap can hide the mess and give some relief.”

Cowboy Boots

“A cute pair of boots can make me feel on top of the world! I like a little bit of heel and tradition mixed with flashiness to catch the eye and keep things fun on your feet.”

Long Sleeve Button-Ups

“Rarely do I go anywhere without a few good button-up long sleeve shirts. They are both super flattering on any body type and give you that classic cowboy look.”

Hannah Crandall

Originally from Earth, Texas, a small town in the Texas panhandle, I was raised around rodeo, agriculture, and the western lifestyle. With a degree from Texas A&M University, I have found a passion for promoting the lifestyle that made me who I am today. I am an experienced writer, marketer, and event professional with a strong desire to share the stories of those in our industry. When I’m not busy seeking out ways to promote the western way of life, I enjoy following those I care about around to rodeos, hunting, and going on runs with my blue-eyed, blue-merle Australian Shepherd.
