Hosted by Stock Horse of Texas, the Western Horseman Stock Horse World Show, taking place October 25th-27th, is a prestigious event that features cow work, reining, stock horse trail, and stock horse pleasure, among other crowd-favorite events. Read on to learn more about what to expect before attending the 2019 Western Horseman Stock Horse World Show.
The Stock Horse World Show
You’ll find some of the best cowboys and cowgirls competing at the Stock Horse World Show, trying their hand in the multiple events that are offered. Spectators can anticipate plenty of excitement as they watch fast-paced events such as reining, a popular western sport that involves high-speed circles, spins, and sliding stops.
The Stock Horse World Show, taking place in Abilene, Texas, at the Taylor County Expo Center is free to watch, as is the Stock Horse Derby and AQHA Ranching Heritage Event.
Stock Horse Derby
The Stock Horse Derby will feature competitors riding on 4-6-year-old horses. Similar to the Stock Horse World Show, the events that will be included in the derby are cow work, reining, stock horse trail, and stock horse pleasure. Competitors will have extra incentive to enter the derby this year as there’s $4,000 in added money, a special 4-year-old Incentive Payout, and an Open Division with a $1,000 Non-Pro Incentive!
Ben Baldus, riding Playin Motown, earned the coveted 2018 Derby Champion title and will be returning this year to see if he can earn the prestigious title once again. Spectators will not want to miss out on watching this talented cowboy compete!
AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge
An important part of the Stock Horse World Show and a qualifying event for the Ranching Heritage Challenge Finals in 2020, the AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge showcases all levels of working ranch horse and ranch riding.
Speaking more on the importance of an event like the Ranching Heritage Challenge, AQHA says,
“The AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge highlights the versatility, soundness and willing attitude of American Quarter Horses born and raised on a ranch. First, the goal of the Ranching Heritage Breeders program is to recognize AQHA’s ranching members who have steadfastly continued to maintain the ranching tradition by raising American Quarter Horses for use working cattle. Second, through a series of ranch horse competitions, the Ranching Heritage Challenge is intended to increase the demand for ranch horses by providing an opportunity for ranches and horse owners to compete in a unique ranch horse competition with a significant purse.”
