Here at Cowboy Lifestyle Network, we are all about supporting small businesses which is how this series was born. I am thrilled to be able to highlight a small business in the western, ag, or rural space. This month, I am featuring Lorraine Campos, Owner of the Third Rodeo Boutique. Lorraine was born and raised in a small town in Arizona, called Superior. She grew up surrounded by ranchers and cowboys, so her personal style has always reflected that. She currently lives in Mesa, AZ but spends her time between her hometown where her family still resides, and my home in the city. I enjoyed this Q & A with her about her business. Check it out below!
Krysta: How did you get started in your business?
Lorraine: I went to college, became an educator, and as I began my career, realized I needed a second income so I started selling my personal clothing and purses on EBay and Poshmark, as well as doing wardrobe styling for clients for weddings, closet clean outs, and consigning items, as well as style consults. In 2020, right before the pandemic started, I began my own boutique, Third Rodeo Boutique. I’m not one to shy away from a challenge and I have a lot of grit & determination so I launched my boutique even though times were very unpredictable in 2020. I started selling my own line of apparel for men and women, as well as a full line of clothing, jewelry, and accessories with a Western boho vibe. My boutique is best described as an online shop where grit meets glam. I recently resigned from my full-time teaching position and will be running my online boutique full-time, as well as traveling to do pop-up shops. I hope to grow and scale my small business, stay true to my roots, and inspire other women to live out their dreams and purpose.
Krysta: What motivates you in your business?
Lorraine: My motivation is fueled by my passion for clothing, my creativity & eye for trends. I am also motivated by the freedom and control that comes with owning my own business, honestly. It is a lot of constant hard work but knowing this is my baby and something I created on my own & poured my soul into brings me a great sense of pride. When I came up with my business name (Third Rodeo Brand) I felt like it was fitting because as a rancher when you have a brand it represents you, your blood, sweat, tears, & commitment, and it’s so much deeper than the brand. The same applies to my business. I spent two decades working in education and for me, my business gives me a place to channel my passion and creativity, and it’s by far one of the achievements I’m most proud of.
Krysta: What makes your business unique from others?
Lorraine: I offer one on one wardrobe consultations for clients when they reach out to me, so for instance, I recently styled one of my customers for all of her daughter’s graduation ceremonies and parties she was hosting. I have a lot of repeat customers. Having grown up in a big family in a small town, I was always taught to treat people like family, so I know that’s part of why my customers continue to shop with me: for the experience. Also, I not only offer clothing, jewelry, and accessories, but I’ve also brought in custom-made jackets and kids’ clothing that you can’t find anywhere else, and my own line of Third Rodeo Brand merch.
Krysta: Where do you want to be in the next 3 years?
Lorraine: I want to have a mobile boutique and travel with my business even more, expand my apparel brand to include hats and caps as well as a wider range of branded merchandise, and grow and scale my business.
As a small business owner, I really appreciate this opportunity to be considered for a feature. I read all of your articles faithfully and really enjoy them, so I would be honored to have my small business considered.
