Just a few short moments after the Rookie of the Year 2011 title was awarded to Chandler Bownds of Lubbock, TX, the rookie bull rider took on the challenge of Sutton Rodeo’s Crystal Springs Peach. Bownds decided that one buckle for the day was not enough and took the title of WNFR Round 6 Bullriding Champion with an 89 point ride. The uprighted-horn bull decided he would celebrate by having a little fun of his own. As always, hats off to our bull fighters, and in this particular round to Darrell Diefenbach for taking the hit that sent him flying to the roof.
The barrel racing track was not quite as fast as last night, but still had pretty girls flying through the clover leaf in the Thomas and Mack. Reigning World Champion Sherry Cervi and Stingray clocked a 13.93 in this go round to push them over Brittany Pozzi in the total earnings and keep their 1st place in the average.
AQHA Tie Down Roping Horse of the Year, Sweetness, led Clint Cooper to his second place check in round 6 with a 7.6 second run- bumping them up to 2nd in the average. Five time NFR qualifier Ryan Jarrett received his first 2011 WNFR Montana Silversmith Championship buckle with a round 4 matching time of 7.4 seconds.
Minnesota cowboy Tyler Corrington drew Stace Smith Pro Rodeo’s Goin South- the bucking horse Wade Sundell won round 1 on. Tyler also received his first Montana buckle in the Saddle Bronc riding with an 86 point ride. Tyler is the first Minnesotan to qualify for the WNFR in 28 years. His first time trip to the big show has won him nearly $34k.
Phenomenal roping skills shown by Trevor Brazile and Patrch Smith as they rope the fastest time we’ve seen yet of a 3.5! That’s only .2 off the arena record set by Chad Masters and Jade Corkill in 2009. This team is only one of two that has not missed yet this rodeo and they have kept their number one spot in the average.
Classic Pro Rodeo’s Nutrena’s Wise Guy was an awesome draw for Bobby Mote who can add a win to this NFR event record for most round wins- now 22. Mote scored an 87 on the same horse that Steven Dent place 3rd in the first go with an 86.5 point ride.
Round 7 kicks off at the Thomas and Mack at 7pm [Vegas time]. Make sure to watch it live on GAC- the exclusive TV broadcaster of the WNFR.
