Toyota’s 4Runner is one of the original SUVs, and one of the few with true off-road capability, according to a review in Digital Trends. For buyers who want an SUV that can keep going when the pavement ends, the review says it’s hard to beat the 4Runner.

All 4Runner models come with a 270-horsepower, 4.0 liter V-6 and five-speed automatic transmission, says Cars.com. TRD models offer standard four-wheel drive, while other models have a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive. Maximum towing capacity is set at 5,000 pounds.

Other features make off-roading easier in the 4Runner. Hill-start assist is now standard on all models, and downhill assist is standard on Limited and SR5 models, according to the Cars.com review. Crawl control offers low-speed cruise control when off-roading, and optional Kinetic Dynamic Suspension adapts to obstacles and vehicle speed.

The most significant changes to the 4Runner for 2020 are the addition of Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa as standard on all models, notes the Cars.com review. An 8-inch touchscreen makes it easy to access apps, and some models offer a smart key option with push-button start. The 2020 4Runner also includes a package of safety features — automatic emergency braking, lane departure and sway warnings, automatic high beams and adaptive cruise control — as standard on all versions.

Seating arrangements in the 4Runner offer options for five to seven passengers with an available third row. For 2020, the 4Runner adds two more USB ports for rear-seat passengers, says Digital Trends, keeping everyone connected.
