44th Annual Cowboy Downhill in Steamboat Springs

If you’re like many other cowboys and cowgirls, there’s nothing you like better than a little adventure. And if you’re going to be in Steamboat Springs on January 14th and 15th in 2018, there’s no doubt you won’t be able to pass up the 44th Annual Cowboy Downhill. While you may be used to seeing cowboys riding horses or trying to tame a big, bad bull, you don’t get too many chances to see them on skis. Yet when you show up in Steamboat Springs, you’ll see the best cowboy skiing anywhere around. And with media coverage from the Cowboy Lifestyle Network, Ak-Chin Indian Community, Earnhardt Auto Centers, and Papa John’s Road Team giving fans great coverage of the event, you’re sure to not miss any of the action.

Event History

From its beginnings in the 1970’s, the Cowboy Downhill has grown into one of the most popular events in Steamboat Springs. Having only a handful of competitors initially, this cowboy skiing event now regularly has more than 100 of the top professional rodeo cowboys in the world flying down the slopes. One of the most unique events in the West or anywhere else, it’s sure to grow more and more popular in the years to come.

Along with witnessing some great cowboy skiing on the slopes, the Cowboy Downhill also has plenty of other great entertainment for its fans. On Sunday, January 14, fans can enjoy a hot air balloon show from 5-6 p.m., followed by the Cowboy-up Party at the Bear River Bar and Grill that lasts until 10 p.m. or whenever the last cowboy or cowgirl leaves.

‘Then the following day from noon until 5 p.m., you and your friends or family can venture to the Festivities in Gondola Square. Offering great food, live music, and other fun activities, these will take place in the Bud Light Tents and at the Bear River Bar and Grill. And of course, at 1 p.m. the Cowboy Downhill itself begins, featuring a timed event slalom that is followed up by the extremely popular “Stampede,” which thrills fans year after year.
