Bob Feist Roping Invitational 2019

Written by

Known as the “most recognized and prestigious event in the sport of professional team roping,” the Bob Feist Roping Invitational not only attracts the top roping athletes in the industry, but also draws large crowds of hopefuls who come to watch all of the action, looking forward to the day when they will compete amongst such fierce competition. Read below to learn more about the elite roping!

How it Works

The signature event, taking place June 24th, 2019, is considered the pinnacle of team roping productions and features 100 team-roping teams who compete for glory in six intense rounds of roping. In the sixth round, 100 teams get narrowed down to 15, and the team with the fastest cumulative time overall wins. Over $600,000 in cash and prizes are up for grabs at this year’s BFI.

How it Came to Be

Mr. Bob Feist originally came up with the idea for BFI while attending a tennis match with a former girlfriend. He is quoted saying,

“I thought to myself, this is what we do at the rodeos and good ropings too. We all stop what we are doing to go watch a good team or guys we know can catch. I thought, I bet if I set up an invitational event, with only forty of the best teams, under extremely tough circumstances, that people would come and watch.”

The location of the roping moved throughout the years, but finally found a home in Reno, Nevada, in 1982, and has been thriving ever since.

BFI Week

While the Bob Feist Roping Invitational may be the most well-known roping in Reno, it’s only one part of an exciting week filled with major roping events, including the popular Charlie 1 Horse All-Girl challenge. Other ropings taking place are the High Desert High Roller, Hooey Jr. Championship, #11 Wrangler National Patriot, #12.5 High Desert Showdown, and the Cactus #9.5.

Stacey Lorton

Hey y'all! Stacey here, I'm originally from Texas, but now I'm a desert dweller! When I'm not working you can find me riding horses; I compete in reining and ranch riding. I am super excited to be a part of the Cowboy Lifestyle Network Team!
