[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As the seat of Erath County, Stephenville TX is often referred to as the Cowboy Capital of the World; this is one of the most anticipated events in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) circuit, and it owes a lot to the Western heritage of the city. This year’s rodeo events will unfold from September 22 to the 24 at the Lone Star Arena on U.S. Highway 377.
From bareback riding to saddle bronc and from steer wrestling to bull riding, this year’s Cowboy Capital of the World rodeo promises lots of action for the whole family. Over the last two years, the PRCA has named this event as one of the Top Five rodeos in the country. Riders, cowboys and cowgirls from the U.S., Canada and Australia will be competing for sizable cash prizes; in 2016, the total purse was worth more than $140,000.
There will be more than PRCA bulls and broncos in Stephenville TX during the Cowboy Capital of the World celebrations. Things will get started with a 5K run followed by a rodeo parade, rope tricks, and special cowboy performances. On September 19, a society event known as The Show will be held for those who appreciate the new wave of Western fashion. The Miss Cowboy Capital pageant will feature 14 young ladies who exemplify the dazzling feminine beauty that the Lone Star state is known for.
As a proud city in the Lone Star State, Stephenville TX has a rich rodeo history that dates back to the days before Gene Autry went abroad to serve in the Army Air Corps. Autry used to perform in Erath County; in his absence, the legendary Roy Rogers delighted local fans who could not travel to Madison Square Garden. Over the years, the rodeo scene grew exponentially in the region; for this reason, the Cowboy Capital of the World Association was organized in 2013 with a mission to preserve the rodeo heritage of Stephenville TX.
Tickets for the rodeo and all other events can be purchased at The Hay & Feed Ranch, First Financial Bank, Capital Hatters, and Twisted J stores.

About the Author:

Biography:

Peter Varlet’s the cowboy critic you love to hate, until he’s right. Born during a thunderstorm in 1972 in Bismarck, North Dakota, he grew up watching his WWII vet dad battle to save their farm from corporate claws. Now, Peter’s the unapologetic voice of Western culture, with a historian’s grip on America’s past, acknowledging both its heroes and hypocrites.

His truth to power articles are a no-holds-barred zone for rodeo reviews, cowboy movie takedowns, and ranching tricks that work. He’ll tell you why your country singer’s a fraud and how to fix a fence with only baling wire and spite.

Peter despises corporate factory farms taking over and cherishes the DIY grit of real Americans. Politically correct? Nope. Trustworthy? Damn straight. He’s saving the West, one brutal truth at a time.
