Crow Fair Celebration Powwow and Rodeo 2019

Written by

Attracting more than 50,000 spectators and participants from around the world and named one of the biggest powwows in the country, by the Apsáalooke people of the Crow Indian Reservation, The Crow Fair Celebration Powwow & Rodeo celebrates 101 years and running. The celebration is August 14-19, 2019 in Crow Agency, Montana and includes daily parades, a four-day powwow, a rodeo and horse races.

The Parade

The parade begins each morning at ten o’clock. Featuring princesses wearing traditional and elaborate dresses riding along on horseback or by vehicle. The Color Guard will be leading the parade as the Grand Marshall along with retired veterans and active members of the armed services. Following close behind the Color Guard are the President, Vice-President, and First Vice-President of the Crow Fair.

The Pow Wow

The grand entry of the pow wow begins at 1 p.m. The Crow Fair PowWow has similarities to other pow wows throughout the west, focusing more on the traditional dance styles. The dress and style of the dancers have been the same for many generations. Unique additions are made to decorate their regalia. Members of other tribes come to join the Crow people to dance and sing.

The Rodeo

The rodeo is a sanctioned event by The Northern Plains Indian Rodeo Association. The Indian National Finals Rodeo is made up of eastern Montana and the state of Wyoming. The rodeo, at the Edison Real Bird Memorial Complex, features events; team roping, breakaway roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, bull riding, bareback, and saddle bronc. Make your arrangements and mark your calendar so that you don’t miss the exciting 2019 PRCA Crow Fair Rodeo and Crow Powwow.
