Frozen Fury on the Plains: A Bucking Bronc Futurity Match
While February in Wyoming may bring frigid winds and snow‑covered prairie, Cheyenne is proving that rodeo action doesn’t have to wait for summer. The city is gearing up for the 4th Annual Frozen Fury on the Plains, an indoor bucking bronc futurity match that delivers that high‑intensity rodeo action fans crave, even in the dead of winter.
Presented by Pine Bluffs Distilling in partnership with the High Plains Rodeo Foundation, Hell on Wheels Rodeo Company, and Laramie County Events, Frozen Fury brings up and coming broncs and rising cowboy talent together for a night of thrills, spills, and family fun.

So What is a Futurity?
Much like in horse racing, a futurity is a specialized competition designed for young horses, giving them a safe, structured environment to showcase their potential while gaining valuable experience. In this case, Frozen Fury’s bucking stock features 4 and 5‑year‑old broncs, the up‑and‑coming stars of the rodeo world.
But it’s not just the horses who are in the early stages of their careers. The riders are too. Every cowboy competing at Frozen Fury is either a non‑PRCA contestant, a PRCA permit holder, or a PRCA rookie, giving the audience a chance to cheer on the next generation of rodeo athletes.
What’s in it for the Competitors?
Frozen Fury is a 100% payback rodeo, meaning every dollar of entry fees from both the cowboys and the stock contractors goes directly back into the prize pot. On top of that, an additional $4,000 in added money has been stacked onto both sides, raising the stakes and rewarding standout performances. Winners will also take home a championship buckle and a bottle of Hell on Wheels Bourbon from Pine Bluffs Distilling.
What else does Frozen Fury have to Offer?
In addition to the gravity‑defying bronc rides, Frozen Fury on the Plains offers plenty to keep fans warm, fueled, entertained, and in the shopping spirit. Food concessions will be available for purchase, beer, wine, and liquor will also be on hand, and of course, no Wyoming event is complete without a nod to western culture, attendees can browse a curated selection of western vendors, offering everything from gear to gifts.
Bringing Cheyenne Spirt Right to the Fans
Visit Cheyenne’s presence at the NFR and its commitment to events like Frozen Fury on the Plains underscores something important: Cheyenne isn’t just a summer stop for rodeo fans. It’s a community that lives, breathes, and celebrates western culture all year long. Whether you’re catching the excitement in Las Vegas this December or planning a winter trip north, Cheyenne continues to deliver authentic rodeo action and a true taste of the West, no matter the season!
