The year was 1939 when the Mercedes, Texas Chamber of Commerce gathered to organize the first Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Agricultural Exposition. With humble beginnings, the event quickly gained popularity in the community. Through its preservation of Texas’ ranching and agricultural heritage, the event made quite the impact on the surrounding communities and today is considered one of the top ten livestock shows and rodeos in the Lone Star State.
The Rio Grande Valley Rodeo is more than just a rodeo! In addition to its main events, the event also offers a wide variety of events and activities for the whole family to enjoy. From the rodeo parade and carnival to the livestock shows and exhibits, there’s something for everyone!
A ranch rodeo will kick off all of the action on March 11-12, with professional rodeo performances taking place March 16th, 17th, and 18th and will include all your favorite PRCA events such as bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback riding, team roping, tie down roping, steer wrestling, and barrel racing.
