The entire western industry is still reeling from the news of late Mason Lowe. No one expects this kind of thing, nor is prepared for it. On January 15th, 2019 Mason Lowe was riding in the National Western PBR Chute-Out when the bull he was riding stepped on his chest. According to Sean Gleason, CEO of the Professional Bull Riders, that he died as a result of injuries sustained while in competition.
“The entire PBR and National Western sports family extends our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to Mason’s wife Abbey and his family.” – Sean Gleason
The 25-year-old cowboy from Exeter, Missouri, was number 18 in the World Rankings and was ready to go to the top this year. In the seven years, he was a part of the PBR, he qualified for the world finals twice. According to the PBR media guide, “Lowe began his bull-riding career as a toddler, when his dad let him get on the family’s milk cows.” When he was just 15 he began to compete in amateur bull riding in the Midwest and just a few years later joined the PBR’s elite tour.
Cowboy Lifestyle Network had the pleasure of hanging out with Mason on multiple occasions and can only say that heaven gained a great cowboy. As our team took a trip down memory lane, we remembered to be thankful for the time and the opportunities we have to meet great athletes like Mason and to not take anything for granted. With that being said, we give our most heartfelt condolences to his wife and family.
