Meet the 2025 Wrangler NFR & NFBR Competitors

It’s that time of year again! I don’t know about you, but I spend my entire year counting down to the Wrangler NFR. Great athletes, great animals, and great shopping – name a better combo! If you’re gearing up to build your Pro Fantasy Rodeo team, or just love immersing yourself in all the action, here’s who’s going to be competing at the 2025 National Finals Rodeo and National Finals Breakaway Roping.

Book Your Stay at Rio Las Vegas

If you’re heading to Vegas, making Rio Las Vegas your home base just makes sense. It’s got that same classic, timeless vibe rodeo fans love. Rio has always been an icon as the city’s original all-suites hotel, and now it’s back and better than ever.

Under new ownership, the property has undergone a significant refresh: over 1,500 updated suites, plus brand-new rooms in the Ipanema Tower, inspired by Rio’s Brazilian roots. And this December, the revitalized Rio is the perfect hangout – new pools, lounges, restaurants, and plenty of spots to connect with other rodeo fans. It’s the comfort, style, and fun your WNFR trip deserves.

Make the most of your NFR experience with the exclusive Rio Rodeo Fan Package, featuring:

  • 35% off your stay
  • $100 food and beverage credit to use across the property

Use promo code RODEO35 when booking to lock in your stay and enjoy the perfect launchpad for all things NFR.

Back Number Ceremony

Before the action heats up, the NFR Contestant Welcome Reception & Back Number Ceremony kicks off on Tuesday, December 2, at 7 pm at the South Point in Las Vegas. The event will spotlight each contestant as they receive their qualifying Wrangler NFR 2025 back number. With 2025 marking a momentous 40 years in Vegas, some of the 1985 world champions will be handing out the NFR back numbers to this year’s qualifiers!

Barrel Racing

Number eight barrel racer, Anita Ellis, suffered a serious fall from her futurity horse and hit her head when she landed on the concrete at the arena in South Jordan, Utah. She was transported to the hospital in Salt Lake City, where she remained until November 25, when she was released to go home to continue outpatient therapy. While her recovery is progressing, her team of doctors has not released her to ride at this time, resulting in the difficult reality of having to turn out of the 2025 NFR.

With that decision, Julie Plourde of Krum, Texas, who is ranked 16th, will now take Ellis’ place and have an opportunity to run at her first NFR. She will be awarded back number 119.

We are wishing Anita a speedy and full recovery, and sending lots of thoughts and prayers her way!

Breakaway Roping

The 2025 NFBR is going to be looking a bit different this year. With the current EHV-1 outbreak, the NFBR will now take place Dec. 22-23, at the Cowtown Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas. The NFBR was originally scheduled to take place Dec. 2-3, at the South Point Arena in Las Vegas. The venue and date change comes after the PRCA and WPRA received notice from the South Point that out of an abundance of caution and the Nov. 21 stringent biosecurity guidelines, the events would not take place Dec. 2-3 at the South Point Arena.

“This decision was not made lightly, given the unfortunate hand the event was dealt.”
